Exposed Vocals sits down to an interview with Brooklyn’s Gaviana

Gaviana born in Brooklyn, New York moved to South Florida for 10 years and moved back to New York to live in Long Island began to have a passion for Music at a very young age. She knew deep down inside of her that art was going to be her passion but she realize it was music that gave her that drive. She started performing at Musicals and Talent Shows at High School and even joining the performing arts program at her school.

Gaviana was able to perform around her town from Open mics to Festivals. After high school she started to take her music seriously. She independently release her first single “Dedicate This to You” an R&B Ballad that speaks about her sadness but still brings hope at the same time. This is the only beginning of Gaviana.

Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

Well, I spend my childhood in South Florida, Fort. Lauderdale. And then when I was around 11 I moved to Valley Stream, New York. I don’t how to explain my story but I guess I can say I have stories of my life I Would like to share I like to look at with a double lens see things that people that people usually don’t see. I first decided to become an Artist, when I was watching The Cheetah Girls Movie and when the girls started performing I was intrigued that’s when I decided I wanted to a singer and every time I see a performance, a show, I always get so excited because I just can’t wait to do something like that.

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

You mean the name Gaviana, it’s my birth name. I just really like that name I used to hate it because It was so different but now I love it because it shows how unique I am. My mom named me after another woman called Gaviana from Panama. I don’t know just really liked her so she named me after her.

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

It’s really up to the Artist what they want to do with there music. But right now I want to be taken seriously so my music will be put on sale in till otherwise. And online music sharing is the future of music I don’t have a problem as long as the artist gets compensated.

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

I’m still a small local band myself lol. But, in my advice, start out small go to open mics, go online find some gigs there out there you just gotta look. Also, airplay is hard, I mean getting college airplay might be easier but I think if you want those big stations to play your song I think you should get your music viral give them a reason to play your song.

Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?

The Show must go on!!!!!!

Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?

I haven’t toured yet hopefully by the end of the year. But, I wish to tour.

Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

I’ve been through so much in life I have so many stories to tell. My songwriting process is usually me being in the mood and just when I’m inspired I write it down that’s why I always carry a book with me.
