Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Young Kafaun: First off before we get I wanna give a big shout out to Exposed Vocals for coming thru once again I really appreciate this …now let’s get to the interview (lights Blunt) ….Now I’m from a small place called Fayetteville Georgia born out of the state of Georgia ..im not really your average type of Artist that’s from Atlanta ..im have different types of visions that I would like to share with the world ….my music is different ..my way of dressing is different ..my way of talking is not average its somethin that is inspired by the “Trippy” lifestyle…with a little Neo Soul sprinkled into it. Growing up I’ve been around music whether if it was listening to Jazz with my father who is now passed away bless his soul or if it was me listening to the sounds of the choir and drums and pianos at a church or if was me just watching BET I knew that I wanted to one day put my 2 cents into the music world one day and share my visions of music and that didn’t really start until the summer of 2010 when I downloaded Fruity Loops onto my computer and after that I dived right into creating beats ..having the knowledge that I picked up from The Yardeez back when I used to go to their moms crib and do homework I would sneak down and be nosey haha but I’ve just carried the thought process on and as years went by I would put out mixtapes and try to get a name for myself ..and the rest is history.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Young Kafaun: the word Kafaun means the colors of life…I found that out last summer from doing research and homework so all these years I would be saying oh my name is Kafaun blah blah blah so now its the colors of life that’s mixed into one ..meaning every emotion mixed into one name now that could be good or bad and that’s the great thing about Kafaun is that you don’t know what your gonna get …and that’s the beauty of it ..I leave you guessing and its not something that’s ordinary or something that your used to everyday.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Young Kafaun: I think in the last interview I said its cool because it gets your name out there but its also a risk because people could steal your music so if your putting your music out there just make sure its protected at all times.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Young Kafaun: What I would just say is stay true to yourself …it gets vey hard and stressful because you never know when its going to happen or when your time is going to come and I think that’s when the real test comes is seeing if you really want it or not or where your hunger is and make sure you have the right team no matter if its a small company or yourself make sure you have all your business taken care of then just push yourself…straight up
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
Young Kafaun: Just by everyday things to be honest we all have stories and that’s what I think progresses every songwriter or rapper to tell a story just like Tyler Perry or Spike Lee has the motive to write a script its all just stories and creations that build your motive.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
Young Kafaun: Nah man I just have a Twitter Facebook Snap Chat and Instagram that’s where you find most people going and Sound cloud and YouTube besides that where do you see people going ..if I weren’t to post this interview on either one of those websites most of my fan base wouldn’t even know about it ..besides the people who go on the Exposed Vocals Website daily know what I’m sayin and that going back to your last question where you asked me about the advice on giving smaller artist like bro if you don’t push yourself to get your stuff out there whose really gonna do it ..its like man now and days you got to be your own record label you honestly got to sign yourself that’s how your attract others to rock with you not by going to these other record labels and knocking on their doors cause they really not gonna do shit for you ..ask Bobby Shmurda he’ll tell you straight up its good to have folks behind you but you got to push yourself straight up.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
Young Kafaun: Well first I would by myself a little house and a car haha cause being on the streets damn near homeless is not the move anymore ..it was never the move but when situations happen to where you find yourself having to take real life risk your mind changes a lot I would get my son out of his mothers room an get him his own room where I stay and make sure he was good and had everything he needed so he can grow up the right way and become the future of our nation believe it our not the babies are the future all we need to do is raise them right and make sure that we do our part as parents and being a 20 year old father it gets hard but its also joy watching him grow and knowing that he is going to be somethin ya know so yeah that’s what I would do
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Young Kafaun: Social Media is the best source honestly.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Young Kafaun: Right now I’m starting up my own production company I’ve kind of got a business going that I would like to expand with the right kind of people and I think that I could make it work other that more albums and music that’s coming out so look forward to hearing about that once again in the future.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Young Kafaun : Hell to be honest I would probably be dead ..music is honestly my life saver ..and that’s been from when I was at my mothers house but I have other things that I do like graphic designing and things like that but music is my number one.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
Young Kafaun: I honestly just maintain and just keep my head on straight
