Exposed Vocals Interviews Yah Lanskey

Philly born rap artist with a well rounded background from the streets.Yah-Lanskey constantly has introduced new slang and anthems some that have been adopted by larger artist,tv shows and movies.After a short conversation Yah-Lanskey will be starring in a new reality tv show based around his career answering questions about his past and present.

Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?

 You guy interviewed Yung Irb he’s a close friend of mine that I make hot songs with and serious Indie moves.

Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

 Im from southwest Philly or swp.I grew up with hoop dreams I never made the high school team but my street game and name was good enough to get me a scholarship in college.The problem was being broke in college so I found myself back in the Hood often still in the street doing things to keep my gear troomed up that mean poppin or fly by the way.But I always wrote music for years I can’t stop I later some freestyles and put them out and had people talking now I’m making songs doing shows and people still rock with my style so it must be a calling.

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

In the streets I was always the smart one. I was in a rap duo my name was P LANSKY then my partner was E Costello we loved the movie Mobsters. Meyer Lansky was the smart one with heart to fight anybody any size and that fit me to the tee. My partner stop rappin after he went to jail so I added the E to make it LANSKEY and the Yah is from my real first name Yahyah

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

I give my music away to people that truly support me and people that join my mailing list.But people can pirate music anyway so now it’s about building momentum and doing shows to make money. Also having original merch ideas to stand out.

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

Get a budget it don’t matter if you work you gotta pay your way.it takes money to get money and the most expensive packages and etc is not always the best deal do research have a plan written down and follow it.

Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?

if I do make a mistake I don’t panic I keep it moving fans never saw your show they don’t know if U make a mistake unless U fall or trip lol but the show must go on you know the saying.

Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?

I have not toured yet unfortunately.But May 2016 we will be on tour.I travelled to do shows I get groupie love most girls are shocked to hear my voice and being deep I think.After I let off them vocals tho it’s easy picking.But I remember a girl going whoa oh my God whoa oh my God over and over during my first verse in a show in Ardmore Pa.I ain’t know wtf was up but she said I got her in her freak girl bag yadig Lol.

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

I really don’t have a process. Some songs I have I go off the head hook and all other songs I wrote before I had the beat other songs the beat speaks to me and I go in.I never had writers block I’m really conditioned for music I don’t have patience to make beats but I get my verses written fast and I’m done in two or three takes.counting my  if I’m doubling my vocals or doing adlibs

Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?

 I’m proud to say I support Justin Bieber even tho I’m Hood lol.

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

 I would use it for my fathers natural cancer treatments that are available and nurse him back to health my daughter is 4 months old she needs a grandpop around a little longer.

Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?

 I’m working with Protools and I’m just gonna upgrade my macbook and mixers

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

 shows online promo is over saturated for DIY I reach out to bloggers and things like that. BUT I think my reality show will set me apart from a lot of artist and really get me heard and more exposure shows and etc.

Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?

 I wanna perform with 50cent and G unit they shows is crazy and I would want to perform in the UK.

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

 My album is dropped “Ima Gangsta Baby” will be out 2/16/16 it’s the second part to my most popular album Southwest Side Hustler it’s fire.

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

I still be in music my family is deep in the culture.I got cousins that managed platinum acts and my Uncle Edward  who passed sang with Harold Melvin & The Blue notes.Also have ghost writers and movie producers in my family so entertainment is hard to Dodge in my family.

Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?

I don’t remember the first album I bought.But the album that changed my life I purchased 7 different times was Reasonable Doubt Jay Z .I got a lot of music first because my cousin worked at Bad Boy Records we had Ushers first video and Biggies Warning on tape  before the songs was edited.I had fake friends that hung with me just to see the videos first haha

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

 I’m good at time management.Even in Philly I hustled on the corner had a job played basketball and schedule out my day.Most artist nowadays just live off snacks and smoking loud and don’t plan nothing.I plan out everything every move.

MORE videos and my reality show “Starving Artist: The Hustled On” First episodes will be out in July 2016
