Exposed Vocals Interviews Vinny – Sophia Furia

From the South of Brazil, on the coldest capital city, Curitiba PR, different of everything you may know about Brazil, 4 friends tired of playing in cover bands os classic rock, started talking about doing somenthing fun, real, that could express them. One thing was equal for all of them, none followed the music as profession and they always felt something was missing.

The bond came in the first rehearshal, music started flowing, jams started to get longer, lirics started to make sense. Their music goes to a soft rock in fotos em revistas, to a eletric rock in Residuos. They are writing about the frustations, how the world sees mid 30’s y.o guys playing in a rock and roll band and the saying it´s just a hobby.

Sophia Furia is about a dream, a faraway one, that everyboy has a just some are chasing.

They play rock and roll, plain and simple, they got the rock beat, no weird clothing or strange perfomances, what they want  to say is in the music, listen to that, it will make sense.

Like the band says, 99% say NO, let´s go after the 1%.

Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

Vinny – Sophia Furia: We mainly grew up in Curitiba, Paraná State, Brasil. It’s the coldest capital city, the wheater is similar to Seatle WA, we can get below zero degrees Celsius on winter e a cool summer. It’s a rock and roll city, but a cover Band city, we had only a 80’s rock band on the mainstream due to some join lirics made with the famous brazilian poet Paulo Leminski. But after that, none came to take the place. We don’t want to take anything, we are building our chance day by day.

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

Vinny – Sophia Furia: Our Singer, André Barão, is the one responsible, he wrote a lyrics with this name, and one day, we were all bother that no name chosen had the Idea that we wanted, and after a rehearsal e listened the song and we said that is it, it means, Furious Philosophy, something that has sense in our lyrics.

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

Vinny – Sophia Furia: we see the streaming marketing as the future, we have all tunes registered and we want to put our music in all platforms, we need people to find us, to connect with the music. When you find a Band that you never heard, that you don’t know, and their music touched you, you create the best bond, something that make you remember the band names and gives you the will to share, because it’s your find, not the Band playing over a over the radio, but you played it yourself.

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

Vinny – Sophia Furia: cover bands is one way to get gigs, we made the opposite, we are getting to know our base fans, they will get the show as they asked, we are going to festivals playing our tunes and leaving our marks, One thing that we always repeat is “99% says NO, we are after the 1% yes”. Follow that, believe in your music.

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

Vinny – Sophia Furia:  the inspiration comes from our frustrations, our struggles as we are mid 30’s adults and none cares about what we feel as we must me grown men, professionals, fathers, husbands. It’s a scream, saying, yes we can be and rock band and age does not means you cannot.

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

Vinny – Sophia Furia:  probaly we would end the Year with at least 3 recorded albums and a baggage of fun. We have to many songs to record in a short of money and time, with money, that you change it for sure. 😉

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

Vinny – Sophia Furia: we are going it online with a selected audience, so we are investing in online advertisements, social networks and all. We are having amazing results in our links.

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

Vinny – Sophia Furia: this year we will be releasing a lot of songs, and next Year we will gather them in a Record, we don’t see a CD coming as we are independent, but a online streaming launch. If we get a Record deal, we will have CD and all.

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

Vinny – Sophia Furia: we would be doing our lives like right know, working and taking care of our families. Life isn’t about being a rock star, but being the best human being you can whatever are your job.

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

Vinny – Sophia Furia: first we believe in our music and this makes everything else easy, because we do it for fun, it’s not a burden. We set goals, short time goals and go after it. So every time we are together something is already done.
