Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
TranceMattiks: I was born at St. James’s hospital in Leeds, Yorkshire, England. I grew up there until I was 12 when we moved to the Lake district, Cumbria, England. My whole journey into
electronic music started with my step dad (ill just call him dad as hes the only father figure I had) he introduced me to some early renaissance tunes and Trance and from the on I was hooked I got some really bad
belt driven turntables and an old gemini mixer from the kevin and peri film finally got my baby’s the technics SL1210 mk 2 for my birthday and I was addicted to djing ever since so you could say a mixture of my dad and all the brilliant music ive listened to over the years inspired me to make a start on producing.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Trancemattiks: Theres not really much behind the name, I was initially DJ titch but that was already trademarked to someone else, so I put word on on fb and a few of my small group of supporters came up with a few different things. one of wich was MTB, Matt Trance Bristoe, I liked it but it was too close to ATB so I thought just put my favourite thing (trance) and my name together and there came Trancemattiks.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
TranceMattiks: I think online music sharing is a good thing and equally bad, for many people like me online music sharing is good because as a newcomer to producing and trying to create a fan base as a DJ it helps to promote yourself amongst a lot bigger community than just your local area or even country. on the other hand, for the Producer that is “Making it” in the industry it can be harmful to there business, assets, income, but i guarantee that person who just downloaded ur album out of interest not illegally selling it, he will purchase your merchandise at some point, I’m not saying it makes it right but rather a silver lining on a grey cloud.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Trancemattiks: Just stick in with it! Don’t give up! Take criticism away with you as something positive like a tool to fix what you were criticised for. But most of all EJOY EVERY MINUTE OF IT, remember what your doing this for and don’t forget where you started from and where you came from.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
TranceMattiks: It can come from anything at all, moments in life, emotions, even the weather inspires me, especially my children.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
TranceMattiks: Mostly mixcloud and hearthis.at
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
TranceMattiks: buy a small house with rooms for my children and a room to turn into a studio, get as much equipment as I could, and possibly a holiday as ive yet to visit Ibiza and America for the club scene.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
TranceMattiks: to promote myself as a dj its literally just word of mouth at the moment. I’m still very unknown, and I would love to work as a dj but no opportunity has arisen as of yet.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
TranceMattiks: I’m currently working on my very first production hopefully finish it sometime this year haha because I’m still learning all the bits n pieces of the software I use haha
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
TranceMattiks: In all honesty I really don’t know, I don’t have much of an education so jobs are hard to come by but I’m into photography as well and I’m always out taking photos so I suppose that’s something to fall back on.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
TranceMattiks: I just do the best I can in everything I do. keeping myself healthy and my friends and family happy take priority over everything.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?
TranceMattiks: my first song if any labels like it or I find some way of getting a release definitely keep an eye out for that, and just LOADS more mixes to come this year ill keep my facebook and mixcloud updated with what’s going on.
