TheVerce, short for Verce-a-tile, began his recording career in Atlanta, GA. TheVerce started by following the southern trend of distinctive hip-hop, and has since stepped out to write and perform truly versatile songs from productions that illuminate electronic hip-hop; from the studio to the stage. TheVerce’s stage show iw awe inspiring as he exposes his soul by mixing his sound with classic vibrant onstage colors and laser sharp lights, reading his unique electronic hip hop performance. He is best known for his collaboration with Snoop Dogg called Another Round.

Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

 

TheVerce: I was born and raised in Atlanta Georgia. Music has always been a major influence in my life. I really didn’t decide that I was going to be an artist. I was always friends with or around artist and we would kick it in studio a lot. I hung around for the girls. Artist would always ask my opinion of songs, or song arrangements and they eventually began asking me to write their hooks. Some artist went on to become successful and they urged me to become an artist so I did.

 

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

 

TheVerce: Verce is actually short for Verce-a-tile. It was giving to me by fans at the beginning of my career. People would say that my sound was truly Versatile. I have always have an ability to become part of any song whether hip-hop, electronic, pop or whatever.

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

TheVerce: Well I am actually torn on my views about online music sharing and I will explain why. Any time you take away the physical touch or real tangible possession of a product I personally believe it cheapens its value. There are so many indy artist that depend on music sales not only for their lively hood but to pay for their musical instruments or studio time. But on the flip side music sharing can get that same indy artist more exposure than they ever could passing out music hand to hand. I was fortunate enough to land publishing deals and write with artist like Snoop Dogg and The Ying Yang Twins so I don’t solely depend on music sales. I often give my music away to show thanks to those who support me.

 

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

TheVerce: I’m going to give it to you straight, GET YOUR BUSINESS TOGETHER FIRST. Put together a plan with a good team and stay consistent. Good gigs and airplay take strategic planning and hustle.

 

Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?

 

TheVerce: Oh hell yes!  My company isn’t called Team Blackout for nothing. lol Sometimes when the drinks are pouring mistakes tend to happened. Our shows have laser lighting and are more about the party, peace and good vibes so we just roll with the mistakes.

 

Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?

 

TheVerce: Yes I tour. I usually tour the southeast and Midwest. Most of my touring request start in the spring and last through the fall for the party season. I can’t talk about most of the interesting things because I would probably get arrested after this interview. Lol We had just finished our hosting set at Tomorrow World in west Georgia last year and our tour bus was stranded in the mud. The festival goers were sleeping on the side of the road and we wasn’t bout that. The liquid courage somehow influenced my whole crew to walk 6 miles on a pitch black road, barefoot and covered in glow paint. Luckily we hitched hiked with a few festival goers dressed in full Native American War Gear and a Gumby costume. We piled 8 people into a Toyota Corolla and were dropped off at the airport at 5:30am. Security quickly apprehended us based on our appearance and questioned us for about 45 mins. They eventually let us go and we caught a taxi back to our hotel.

 

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

 

TheVerce: I can gather inspiration from anywhere. I don’t have a process. When it hits me I just start writing.

Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

 

TheVerce: My band website is www.theverce.com I like YouTube, Soundcloud and Reverbnation.

Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?

 

TheVerce: I have some embarrassing songs I created in High School on my mp3. My boys give me a hard time for being a fan of Florida/Georgia Line. I met them and went to a show and was a fan ever since.

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

 

TheVerce: Chill, I get paid to party now so I really enjoy time with my friends. I would buy a few items but nothing crazy. A half million isn’t what it used to be.

Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?

 

TheVerce: I will be in studio working with a few major Edm djs. I can’t drop names until the paperwork is done but I am very excited. The electronic community has showed love and embraced my style of hip-hop. I am very grateful for these opportunities.

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

 

TheVerce: I promote my music with shows, videos, tour merchandise and social media. Intimate shows are still the best way to promote music.

Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?

 

TheVerce: I still haven’t been to Ibiza. I would love to do it P Diddy style and perform there. Like everyone I would love to perform with the great Michael Jackson.

 

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

 

TheVerce: My newest project will release in July. It’s an EP called “The Inner Light”. It’s available on iTunes and all major music retailers. This EP is designed to increase your serotonin to a level never felt before. The Ying Yang Twins hopped on this project to make sure it’s a banger.

 

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

 

TheVerce: I am a die-hard sports fan. I am the best coach from the couch. I would probably be a High School coach.

Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?

 

TheVerce: My first album was ATLiens by OutKast. That album was unlike any other hip-hop out at that time. Despite all the criticism OutKast kept being original and the world finally caught up. I often get the same criticism now for being so different but I gotta be me. That is still my favorite album.

 

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

 

TheVerce: My Team Blackout team helps me with that. I couldn’t do this without them. They keep me organized and on point.
