Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

 

PalienVasion: Well, I grew up in Fargo, North Dakota. I still reside here. I had a tough childhood, in terms of making friends, and fitting in. I was always judged for my differences but I eventually just stopped caring about what others thought of me. That is when I decided to become an artist. Also, the fact that my first song ever was inspired by a lovely night of being harassed by our local police. So, thanks for that.

 

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

 

PalienVasion: Well, I didn’t always use this name. I kind of evolved into it throughout my life experiences with music that I had along the way. Hey, that rhymed. First off, I started as Andrew P, then it was A.P. Andrew, then it was Palien, then I changed the “e” in that name to a 3 to represent the 3rd eye awakening process, and finally I settled with PalienVasion to represent the no holds barred alien invasion like approach that I was about to bring to the music game. Which will happen real soon 😉

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

 

PalienVasion: Online music sharing is absolutely vital to any starving artist. You must have a solid fan base, and social network structure in place to make it big in this day and age. I’ve discovered the more social media sites that you are a part of, the better off you will be. It’s like one big spider web with each segment sticking to something solid on each end to hold it up. If that makes sense. As far as giving away my music goes, I will always try to hand out a mix tape CDs to anyone who wants one. Although, tips are appreciated. My fans matter to me more than the money does.

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

PalienVasion: Well, I’m going to be honest. My career hasn’t even begun to take off yet. I have been at this for about 3 years off & on, and I am still learning. The one thing I know for sure though, is that connections are like gold. The more of them you have, the better off you will be in the long run. Just make sure you stay loyal because word gets around fast. That’s pretty much it, you make connections, form legitimate business partnerships, and the rest will come pretty naturally.

 

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

 

PalienVasion: I gather my inspiration from my own life experiences, mostly. Sometimes, it comes from other artists who I believe share the same charisma as myself. I always try to stay as real as I can, and I believe that is what sets me apart from some of the others currently trying to make it. No disrespect, though. My songwriting process is pretty straight straight forward. Sometimes I just shop for beats until I find something I can relate to or it can stem from the type of mood that I am in, and I will associate a beat with that, too.

Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

 

PalienVasion: Yes! I mainly use Sound Cloud for sharing my work. I can by found on there as PalienVasion. I also have a Facebook page, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube. Just search the same thing.

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

 

PalienVasion: Honestly, I’d probably invest a majority of it into my music. I’ve learned the mistake of investing your money into the wrong things, and I won’t make that one again. I am a business minded individual at heart so I’m guessing all of it would be spent on business ventures of some sort. Being profit, or non.

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

 

PalienVasion: Well, I feel like reaching out to other artists really helps. There’s nothing a fellow artist likes more than making a new fan, and when two artists become fans of each other, new doors are opened. The same goes for producers, engineers, promoters etc. Like I said before, it’s all about establishing solid connections. So in short, established connections work best for me. Making sure that the right people see your stuff, and take interest in it.

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

 

PalienVasion: Yes, in fact I am working on a new song right now. It’s titled “They Say” It’s all about my transformation into the artist known as PalienVasion, and what brought me up to this point. In the last verse of the song I actually directly quote what the police said to me on the night that made me into what I am today. Crazy.

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

 

PalienVasion: If I weren’t making music at all I would still definitely be doing something on a business level. Probably, buying, and selling cars. I love cars. I’m actually working on what I hope to be a customized tour van right now.

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

 

PalienVasion: Well, I have a pretty simple life to be honest. I’m usually working on my own, and making sure my music can come in at the right times. It’s all about balance for me, and doing what makes me happy. Happiness should always come first.

Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?

 

PalienVasion: A completely new person! New sounds, ventures, and everything else in between. I am all about renewing myself to better myself. I can almost guarantee you that as each year passes I will have taken on new personas. That’s just how I am. I am constantly evolving. Life is one big learning process to me.
