*Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made
you decide to become an artist?*

Meghann Wright: I’ve tried a few different lines of work over the years –
chef, video producer, university administrator, bartender – but none have
been as fulfilling or as cathartic as writing and performing music.

*Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your
inspiration behind it?*

MW: It’s just my name. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

*Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever
give your music away for free? Why?*

MW: I give all of my music away for free. It’s the best way to ensure that
more people can hear it and decide for themselves whether they like it or
not before they pay for an album or a ticket to come see me and my band
perform.

*Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any
smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some
tips?*

MW: I started out hosting open mics in bars, booking local bands, and
networking with music industry professionals. I took and ran with any
opportunity afforded me to make friends in the industry. When people see
you working hard and developing yourself as an artist, it inspires them to
help you when they can. It also helps to pay it forward. Whenever an
artist asks for my advice or my help, I always do my best to do whatever I
can.

*Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What
is your usual songwriting process?*

MW: Typically inspiration hits when I am least expecting it so I write any
lyrical ideas in the Notes app on my phone and record any melodic ideas in
my Voice Notes app. Then when I have time to write, I sit down at my desk
with my guitar and my laptop and my USB mic and try to quickly let it all
out into a demo session. When I’m writing with other people, I like to
hear the ideas of the other collaborators first and do my best to help
them come to life.

*Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you
use to share your music?*

MW: www.MeghannBWright.com is my website and I like to use Facebook
(www.facebook.com/MeghannWrightMusic), Instagram and Twitter
(@MeghannBWright) to share things with people.

*Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off,
what would you do? How would you spend it?*

MW: I would buy a recording studio, start a record label and make a bunch
of awesome records. I would incorporate my charity work

into it as well.

*Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works
best for you?*

MW: I try to make a lot of high quality content like music videos, play
shows, etc. and post about it. For instance, last year I started a series
called Covering America since I toured a lot including Vans Warped Tour.
In the series, I covered songs by bands from many of the cities I played
and posted videos of the covers on my YouTube.

*Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want
to talk about?*

MW: I’m releasing a new music video for my song “River” via Bust Magazine
and Vevo on May 4. I’m also touring the United States May 12-June 5 so

*Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?*

MW: Making movies.

*Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while
trying to stay ahead in your music life?*

MW: It can be difficult, but I rely on my calendar and my phone since I am
usually on the go.

*Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?*

MW: Tour, a new record, and more music videos for my Blacktop Records
release Nothin’ Left To Lose available everywhere.
