So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
MC Ell: Hi, I grew up in a small town in Surrey called Walton-on-Thames, about 15 miles from London. I used to jot rhymes down basically as poetry, loved Eminem, who gave me inspiration that white people can rap. After going round bars performing ‘Lose Yourself’ etc and people loving me and becoming fans I thought, I could do my own stuff here. Then with my current job I stumbled across Powerhouse Studios and went from there. My best song so far is probs ‘Cut to the Chase’, go check it out on YouTube here https://www.youtube.com/watch?

How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
MC Ell: This was pretty straightforward and basic. My name is Elliot and people call me Ell for short. Although I do occasionally use Bambz which is short for Bambi. This was given to me as a nickname after I fell out of a shower one morning on a clubbing weekender.
What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
MC Ell: With online music sharing such as YouTube etc it’s good because it allows you to stumble across different artists and increase popularity. But with so many people using a convertor it must be hard to earn any profit from your work. I on the other hand am not sure if I’d like the fame, I just want people to feel me and be like ‘Wow this guy is good’, so yea I usually share my stuff to see what others think.
Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
MC Ell: Haha I’m not famous myself, yet! But I’d say keep going for it, chase your dreams and stay hungry. I have a tattoo that’s an Eminem quote, ‘You Can Do Anything You Set Your Mind To’.
Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
MC Ell: I don’t usually come up with much sitting at home thinking about it. I let it come natural. Some days I don’t even feel like rapping, ok that hardly ever happens. When I listen to Eminem or something with a beat. I can go two ways, if I’m in a bad mood and want to let some aggression out then I can go dark. If I’m feeling good then something a bit more happy can come out. My process I usually come up with some sick rhymes, jot them down and process them in a way to tell a story. My songs are usually about past experiences or what is going on in the world at the time.
Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
MC Ell: No. My band website is basically Twitter, so get following! I share my music mainly on YouTube although it’s on Sound Cloud too.
If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
MC Ell: Over here in the UK we use pound sterling haha. But I’d say I’d definitely keep active (hate sitting about), I’d probably get a Man Utd season ticket and go to all of their games and I’d definitely do more traveling and visit somewhere like Jamaica or Brazil.
How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
MC Ell: I always promote on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. So please get following and even let me know what you think. But I have a load of friends who are behind it too, some even have copies on CD. So if I were to become famous they could one day be worth a fortune!
So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
MC Ell: I do currently have a few projects I’m working on but I’m in the process of trying to find someone to work with. Anyone out there in the music biz or a female artist willing to do a duet give me a shout.
If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
MC Ell: That’s tricky as currently it’s only a hobby and bit of fun. Everyone needs music in their life! But I do have a job I get paid for, I guess I’d just stick with that.
How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
MC Ell: I usually combine both! If a rhyme pops up in my head I’ll just whip my phone out and store it on their.
What should fans look forward to in 2016?
MC Ell: Just to remain patient for now. But I will definitely be dropping some new and improved songs. I’m still hungry.
