Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

 

Max: I grew up in Columbus Ohio and moved to Mesa Arizona when I was 11. I’ve lived her for around 6 years. I always loved music and experimenting with creating my own but I didn’t start making R&B/Rap instrumentals until maybe a year ago. I just want to influence others with my music as so many other artists have done for me.

 

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

 

Max: This is my real name.

 

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

 

Max:  I’m totally down with online sharing right now, anything to get my music around.

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

Max: I am still a start-up so I’m not sure I’m the best person to give advice but one thing I know is sweat equity is more valuable than money.

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

 

Max: I get inspiration from artists that I listen to such as Childish Gambino, Drake, The Weeknd, Bryson Tiller, Kendrick Lamar… the list goes on.

I usually start a song with a tune or an idea I have in my head and do my best to translate it to something audible.

 

Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

 

Max: With half a million I would buy myself a new house, some good recording equipment/software and then I would invest the rest. I would spend my time working on music, being with people I care about and going to school.

 

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

 

Max: I mostly just promote on social media and word of mouth. Interviews help too.

 

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

 

Max: I will be updating music as frequently as possible. I would say every day but I know that won’t happen.

 

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

 

Max: If I weren’t making music I would be creating in some other way. Probably focus on graphic design or something.

 

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

 

Max: I can’t say I do a great job at that but I make sure I spend a few hours every day on music and then work on the rest of my responsibilities.

 

Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?

 

Max: I’m always getting better. I probably won’t be recognizable as the same artist by the end of the year. Fans can look forward to improvement.
