Exposed Vocals interviews Lizzie Doherty

I’m a singer/songwriter sharing my songs I write with the world. I am from a Irish background travelling community . I have always loved singing from when I was a little girl.  I have been writing my own songs for around a year now and  have a lot more songs  come.  I like all different kinds of music so I write to all different type’s of instrumentals. When I hear a instrumental I like, I let the music take me into what I write about. I like to be original & creative.

Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?

 I first heard of Exposed Vocals when i was contacted via twitter asking to speak about my music.

Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

 I grew up in Crystal Palace, Tottenham, Wood green in London, far to many places to mention as I’m from a travelling family i grew up in a caravan with my four brothers and four sisters. Since i was a little girl music was in my heart i grew up with a real passion for it and i have done it ever since. i got married when i was 16 and never had a chance to carry on doing what i wanted to do. since iv been divorced i now have the chance to carrying on singing. twelve months ago i started to write my own music and singing to the public as before i never had the chance to. I never dreamed of writing my own songs and then i did my first cover twelve months ago to whitney Huston I Have Nothing witch i uploaded on youtube witch got me a fan base where i was told that i should start writing my own music.. My partner inspired me and gave me confidence i needed to start writing as he is also a rapper./ personal trainer LOL. I feel very lucky as ever since iv started writing my own music every track has been played on underground radio.

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

 My stage name is my own name.

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

 I think online music sharing is good because is gives unknown artists a chance to share there music and what they do to the world. I have gave my music away for free and i think it is good to give back to the fans, I also have some songs coming soon on ITunes but i will still  to give songs back to the fans for free. 

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

 The advice i would give to smaller or local bands or artists would be to keep sharing your music continue writing and putting music out. Also to be yourself don’t try to be like any other artist it gets you notice more.

Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?

Once i made a bit of a hick up and started late on a live performance, i didn’t really think to much of it i just carried on its only when i finished that it hit me and i had a good old laugh over it what docent kill you makes you stronger.  

Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?

i have not toured yet but would do if i had the opportunity. 

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

I never plan what I’m going to write about, i love listening to beats and i let that take control and thats how i write my music. Depending on the instrumental and how I’m feeling at the time. Theres no process to it its just a free flow and let the music do the talking. I never write my lyrics down on paper. 

Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

Website is in prosess I use Soundcloud, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to share my music.

Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?

To me its not embarrassing but to people my age would think it was old fashion, i listen to Dolly Patron,Patsy Cline and Shamus Moore.

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

I would either die with a heart attack and not be able to spend it or buy a house with a studio and loads of beats to keep me going because i write very fast and it get expensive 

Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?

 I would love to have my own studio one day, I’m currently working with my partners cousin Cutch_i mobile studio.

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

 Social media, Music networking and leaning as i go along.

Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?

Whitney Huston anyway because it would be a honour.

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

 I have a video for my latest song Umm Boy coming out at the end of the month and the tune will be also available on ITunes.

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

 I would be cleaning up running around after my kids or making my hubby to be jerk chicken rices and peas.

Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?

The first album i brought was on a cassette tape and it was Bob Marley i remember my Dad dancing to it and driving in the car.

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

 I always find time for my music as I’m always writing and if I’m not writing I’m listening to beats.

Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?

 More Music and visuals to come in 2016
