Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Lightyear time: i grew up in a small town in the lake district in england, my dad always played guitar so was always keen, we used to listen to alot of 60s music but when the Arctic monkeys appeared i thought wow this is actually possible so i really started learning guitar. 10years on i hear ed sheerans story and decide screw it i want to make my own music so here i am
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Lightyear time: to be honest i had to pick a name for my soundcloud ( www.soundcloud.com/
So i looked around the room and saw my sons buzz lightyear toy and just went with that
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Lightyear time: i give all my music for free, i think music sharing is great to get you out there , if people like you they are going to buy albums and pay to see gigs im just happy if people are listening
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Lightyeartime: i think im only really a start up myself but id say , stay true to the music you want to make and take the haters comments as contructive criticism
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
Lightyeartime: everywhere, i will just be walking down the street and come up with a catchy riff or chorus , so ill record it then when i get home ill start developing it
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
Lightyeartime: no website, at this stage im just using twitter , soundcloud and word of mouth
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
Lightyeartime: pay off my mortgage and build a studio then make an album
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Lightyeartime: i just pass it round friends and share it on twitter, fellow musicians are a great help at getting their audience to listen to you
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Lightyeartime: im going to make a lp and start doing more gigging about
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Lightyeartime: my day job which is a project manager
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
Lightyeartime: i dont know really , i guess you just do it ! If you want something you have to make it work
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?
Lightyeartime: more songs and some radio play , as well as a lp .stay tuned !
