Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
LA to the Bay: I was born and raised in West Orlando, Fl. Growing up my pops was into music heavy, DJ’ing parties on weekends. My house has always been filled with good music from Sir Charles Jones, Buju banton & 8ball & MJG. Even down to the movies we watched on the weekends like The 5 Heartbeats & The Temptations. Music is the best way I know how to express myself.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
LA to the Bay: Instead of saying my whole name people would just call me ” LA ” or by my last name Goodman. When I dating this girl she’d always call me “LA to the Bay” , it was kinda like a nickname. When I started writing music I seen it in a manifest destiny way. A kid from a small town with Hollywood dreams. Ever since then I’ve stuck with it. LaFinesse is the just another side of me.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
LA to the Bay: I think online sharing is very important for artist in the come up. It gives us a limitless range for promoting music and advertising merchandise. I’d give my music away for promotional use.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
LA to the Bay: The most important thing I can say is to create a budget and manage it & network. Both of these are equally important. “Your Network is your Net Worth ” always remember this.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
LA to the Bay: Inspiration can come from anywhere. I like to write down my thoughts whenever I can or whenever they pop up. If I’m planning to write to a specific song I like to be in a comfortable environment. I like to be distraction free so I put my phone on airplane mode then listen to the track a few times. Once I’ve zone in, I go from there.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
La to the Bay: As of now I do not have a personal website but all music can be found on SoundCloud at ( Soundcloud.com/la-to-the-bay ) .
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
LA to the Bay: I’d work on building an empire and brand that’ll help me multiply that I can in the upcoming years. I like to think ” I you fail to plan, you plan to fail “.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
LA to the Bay: I like to promote my music on social media , word of mouth , and I also have cards with my music links online. I think social media is very effective if you have a active following.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
LA to the Bay: Right now I’m working on an EP ” Therapeutic ” that should be finished by the end of summer. It’ll be about 7 tracks and I’ll have a few visuals to go along with it.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
LA to the Bay: If I wasn’t working on music I’d be working on opening my café or lounge. I’ve always been interested in the culinary & business field and even started on the business plans for it.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
LA to the Bay: I like to plan things ahead that way I can manage my time. Respecting other people’s time is a huge thing as well.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?
LA to the Bay: Look for my EP ” Therapeutic ” in late mid summer and live shows. Follow my social media accounts.
