Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
KY: Well, I was born and semi-raised in Harlem, NY.. I moved down to Richmond, VA at about age 11 and start writing music at about age 14. Becoming an artist just kind of happened. It was more like a dream that would never come true. I was always told by peers and certain family that I let in on my secret desire that I had talent and should in other words “go for the gold.” So, I decided to dedicate myself to become the best musician in the world. No matter what! I wasn’t able to actually start recording until about age 15-16, but once I learned how to speak up on the mic and feel the words I was saying, it all became second nature.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
KY: It’s the first two letters of my name. I kept it simple. It honesty took a while to come up with a name so, why not just be me, Ky.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
KY: I think it’s amazing! You would still have to drive around state to state for people to really hear your music, unless you knew someone at a radio station. I always give free music out, I don’t believe I should sell it until I get a record deal and start releasing albums.. It’s only right.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
KY: Stay true to yourself and who you are and create real music. That’s as simple as it gets. Don’t try to be something you’re not, because it’ll come back and bite you and make you less credible than you are. Especially, when you’re just starting out.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
KY: Just living my life and doing activities that can create some great memories. The process though, that’s easy .. I either put my headphones in or blast beats through my speakers.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
KY: I don’t have an official website just yet, but you can find me and my music on ..

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
KY: Well first off, I’d get the taxes taken out. Then, I’d build me and my parents houses .. Whatever money’s left over, I’d buy an Audi and dedicate the rest to music, videos & promotion.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
KY: I promote in many different ways. Mostly social media .. But what works best for me, I’d say is Facebook, Twitter, SoundCloud & ReverbNation.. I do a lot of face to face interactions about music too! That seems to work, but you have to be a people person and not be afraid to tell people that you do music.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
KY: Yeah, I’m working on what I feel is going to be my break out project, titled City That Never Sleeps. Being from New York I’m trying to incorporate that sound I was influenced with and bring a new sound with some undeniably raw bars! I’m getting all of the features and everything together now, but it should be no more than 2 features.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
KY: Either sell cars or be a computer engineer. I’ve done both, but my vision for music is so high that I didn’t really put my all into those other careers. But if for some reason music didn’t work out, I’m all for giving those another shot.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
KY: I try to keep a set schedule when it comes to everything, especially the music. So I set days and times when I have the most free time and dedicate that to writing or going to the studio.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?
KY: I plan on getting some videos out there and most definitely City That Never Sleeps. Just wait for it
