Exposed Vocals Interviews JY

JY is a rapper , lyricist and music producer. He has been producing music and rapping on his own beats since 2010. Aside from music, JY(Joel Yohannan) is persuing his engineering degree in electronics and communication.
Eminem , lil wayne and kid ink were his musical influences.
JY resides in New Delhi, India. Currently he his working on his next song, titled KINGS.

 

Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

JY:I grew up in New Delhi, India.
I always liked rap/hiphop songs, and I tried to rap along. I always wished of making my own music. And one day a friend of mine gave this software called FL studio. And that day I realized that now I can make my own original music and that is exactly what I did.

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

JY: I initially called myself Lil’ Jiffy, where the lil was inspired by lil wayne and jiffy which I chose because I was a track runner in my school. But later as I grew up I switched to JY which is the initials of my official name “Joel Yohannan” because jiffy actually sounded kidish as I grew up.

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

JY: I owe whatever exposure I get to online music sharing, so I really appreciate it. It is the best medium to reach out to listeners. All of my songs are up for free download because right now I am in the game just for the love of making my own music and would love people to hear my music without having to think about paying for it, also I don’t think I’ve had enough exposure just yet to start charging for my music!!!

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

JY:I try to gather inspirations from real life experiences of either mine or from the society.
I usually first prepare the beats for the song and then I start writing on the selected topic.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

JY: No I don’t have a band website yet, but I do have an artist page ‘JY’ , on facebook .
I share my songs on soundcloud, youtube, facebook , Twitter , Tumbler and pinterest.

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

JY: I would like to visit every country in this world with my family. And with the money left I would like to use it to get a better exposure in the music world.

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

JY: like I said earlier I share my songs on soundcloud, youtube, facebook , Twitter , Tumbler and pinterest, and usually sharing the links to youtube or soundcloud on Facebook works the best for me.

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

JY:Yes, I am currently working on my next song called ‘KINGS’ . I am Making this song for people who want to give up on life . I hope I can inspire others.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

JY: I actually am pursuing an engineering degree in Electronics And Communication.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

JY:Time management , determination ,sacrifice and prioritizing are the key.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?

JY: A lot of New songs!! Especially My upcoming track ‘KINGS’ due this March.
