Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?

 

Jerome: I heard from the Net somewhere while  I was on a hunt. Most likely searching for places to send my music.

 

Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

 

Jerome: I grew up in a small polluted city on a big lake called, Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. I wanted to become an artist when I was in grade 5. I first heard the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. It sounded fun and crazy. I loved the funky bass and wacky vocals. As a kid, it seemed so out there and different. I was hooked straight away. Thanks to my older brother for leaving around his old yellow walkman for to listen too when he was out.

 

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

 

Jerome:  I was given Jeremy Clubb at my human birthing. Jerome was just one of the few nicknames people called me. I decide to use Truman because it was my Grandpa’s name. He was a brave Caption of a ship in World War 2.  They were blown up by an enemy sub. All his crew never made it home.

They were lost in the ocean for many, many days. His brother died in the water next to him. He was the only survivor.

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

 

Jerome: I guess it’s nice to have access to so much music. So, I think it’s good. I do give away my music all the time. You can subscribe at www.jerometruman.com to get some. Wink, wink.

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

Jerome: Find a mentor. One you have to pay for. Even if its 100$ or 10$. The sooner you do that, the faster you will learn the right knowledge to apply so you will get the snowball rolling and establish some roots for the whole process to grow.

 

Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?

 

Jerome: I always make mistakes. It’s part of it. It’s how you play off them. That’s the key to a successful mistake. Some of the coolest things that I’ve done were from a mistake.

 

Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?

 

Jerome: My time touring and living in a van up the east coast of Australia was epic. I dug Byron Bay. The festivals were dope. Trying to find crocodiles in the side stream of the ocean was fun.

 

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

 

Jerome: I usually find it searching youtube.com. In the morning, I wake up with a tea session and a quick smell of the trees. I start by checking out my past liked songs. Then listen and let youtube show me the path to what to watch next. Sometimes, I start writing a song from freestyles. Record it and go back and work it out. Sometimes, while hearing a new traxx on youtube. I open Ableton and start jamming a beat on there. Then, once I have a tempo and a bit of a groove. I turn off youtube and dive into the creation of my new traxx. Sometimes it starts from a loop off my Boss Rc 505.

Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

 

Jerome: Yes, my site is www.jerometruman.com and I use soundcloud.com, Facebook, Youtube.com, Instagram and Twitter.com to share.

Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?

 

Jerome: I don’t have a mp3 player. I normally listen to youtube.com and I am sure there are a few dog songs that are dumb.

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

 

Jerome:  I would give my family money to be able to get out of doubt and retire.  I would move to Costa Rice and start a new Loose Lion’s Den’s studio by the ocean. I would love to start a Club to help feed the youth of the world.

Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?

 

Jerome: I always have plans for new upgrades. Would love a new rig. For now, I have plans to get a new laptop. I use a Macbook pro, Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 and Ableton.

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

 

Jerome:  I hired a mentor, Rick Barker. I listen to podcasts. Twitter has the fastest connection for me. I am still a rookie when it comes to social media . I’ve tried to stay away from it because I thought it was a waste of time sitting in front of a screen. I always like the idea of going out playing your music in person and connecting that way. But now I can’t see how it’s a great tool to reach new fans. I plan to start periscoping live sets in the studio.

Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?

 

Jerome: Oh, for sure George Clinton of Pfunk because he is a champ of style, vibe, imagination and sound. Master of always knowing what to do.  Mad love for Bob Marley as well.

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

 

Jerome: The cats and I of Loose Lion have been working on 2 new albums. We have a Loose Lion collab release titled, Uncooperative and my solo release titled, Electric Amoeba.

We are just wrapping up the recording now. We plan to release in the next couple months. Date to be released soon.

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

 

Jerome:  If I wasn’t making music, I would have never been created. I am a creation from Jeremy Clubb. I came to him in a story of funk. For Jeremy Clubb, he would of gonna deeper into his Doctor of Natural Medicine passion.

Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?

 

Jerome: It was Uplift Mofo Party Plan by RHCP and I thought it awesome and funked out. The coolest thing in the world besides my skateboard.

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

 

Jerome: At this time it’s easy. I live in Taiwan teaching. I only have to work 14 hours a week that to make enough money to live here well.

This allows me to spend more time on music. You have to do a lot more than just be good playing songs these days. You have to be the jack of all trades and engage daily.
