Exposed Vocals Interviews INARI ONE
INARI ONE is a hard hitting rock band based out of Pitman, NJ featuring Rick Mitchell and Jon Tropp (formerly from the band No Warning Shots) and Scott “Stanley” Pustilnick (formerly of MCA recording artist Familiar 48 a/k/a Bonehead whose major label album “Wonderful Nothing”, with the hit single “The Question”, charted on both the Billboard Rock and Hot AC charts).
The group met while recording at Audio Alley in Pitman, N.J., where Scott introduced his experience recording with Grammy-nominated producer Don Gehman (John Mellencamp, REM, Blues Traveler) and Mark Dearnley (AC/DC , Ozzy Osbourne) and touring with such artists as Creed, Nickleback and Rob Zombie.
INARI ONE takes the addictive guitar and bass from such greats as Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden to produce what it calls “Smart” Rock. INARI ONE does not write songs for ego, rather INARI ONE performs songs for the people. Gone are the 10 minute endless confusing jams that no one can comprehend. Gone are the “dog barking lyrics” that no one can understand. INARI ONE defines Rock in 2016 bringing back the addictive guitars and adept song writing that is lacking today.

Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Inari One: Unlike Steve Martin in THE JERK, I wasn’t born poor. We lived in the Suburbs about 15 minutes outside of Philadelphia. My brother and a good friend did not have guitars at 7 years old, but we had baseball bats. The three of us played the hell out of those bats and formed a cover band. At the old age of 8, we started entertaining our friends with KISS covers and some assorted Aerosmith tunes. When our parents saw our band playing the baseball bats like guitars, they felt sorry for us…..either that or they were laughing. Either way, we scored our first guitars.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Inari One: When you choose a band name you don’t want it to sound contrived. So, if someone doesn’t know your music yet, you really need the name to be neutral and not make that person dislike you before they get to know you. Inari One is an old Japanese racehorse. We love to bet the horses and in general, race horses have some of the funniest, strangest, and most interesting names. The band took a long list of race horses and narrowed it down to three names. Inari One came in first….no pun intended.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Inari One: Yes to both! The band absolutely loves online music sharing. We have always been and always be making music for the songs and not for money or any other fake reason. The songs and the creation are the entire reason we exist as a band. We also give our music away for FREE. The reason? Just come see us live…..if we give you the studio songs, great….you can listen every day forever. When you come see us live, you will hear and see that same song in an entirely different way…..
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Inari One: Stop boring the audience. Create songs for the songs and not for your ego. Everyone can play, everyone is pretty good….lots of talented musicians out there. No one cares unless your songs are good. So cut down the song times to 3-4 minutes and stay focused. You can play your 17 minute jams in front of your mirror.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
Inari One: Rick Mitchell and I have been writing together for years now. We have it down to a science. The music is riff based that links to other riffs. I write most of the words while I drive. Driving is an amazing inspiring thing. Did you ever cruise down the road and really forget how you got home? That is because your mind goes on auto pilot. During those times, you can get REALLY creative with your vocals. Try it.

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
Inari One: At the track…..kidding of course… We would absolutely grab our number one favorite engineer, Mark Dearnley and step into the studio for 3 months. We would then take the next 2 months to get our act together and then we would hit the road….a lot of road for the rest of the year…
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Inari One: Tunecore, Youtube, and really any social media outlet. We also love to play live and really try to play constantly.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Inari One: We cut 2 songs every three months to keep everything new. It’s a constant playing, writing, producing, recording cycle. It keeps us from killing each other and our wives, girlfriends, kids, friends…you get the picture.

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
Inari One: I work on music from midnight until 4am…….a lot. This allows me 3 to 4 hours of sleep which is enough. I make sure that I take care of EVERYTHING else during the day when people are actually awake…..as soon as it gets late, I get into the studio and have to drag myself out to try and sleep.
