Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

Hhs!: I’m Hhs!, a hip-hop artiste…I was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria..  I  started singing at at a very young age, made my first song when I was like four years old (a huge part of the song was in in gibberish though)

My biggest reason I’m an artiste today is definitely mom,  she had the voice of an angel!! She passed away when I was 7. My love for Hip-Hop began around that time but I didn’t start rapping until junior high school. At that time I had lost my voice to puberty and I couldn’t sing no more.

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

 

Hhs!: So my name “Hhs!” is a double entendre it means “His humble servant” and “hip-hop slayer!!”  So I love God, I’m a child of God,  I represent Him everywhere I go so I’m his humble servant In this industry y’noe,also I’m a product of Hip-Hop…. Hip-hop literally raised me, it is what I do… & I just happen to slay when I’m on that mic.. Y’noe.. So I’m a humble servant and a slayer at the same time ain’t that awesome?..

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

Hhs!: I love it…. Yeah… Especially the mixtapes, I was freely given this gift that I got…so I ain’t got a problem with giving my music for free…. I know not everyone might have the necessary means to purchase…y’noe.

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

Hhs! : sure…. Love what you do… When work becomes play… For me, that is fulfillment right there!!!  So always try to enjoy yourselves. Make friends with the right ppeople… Build your network… You never know where your big break could come from and more importantly, surround yourself with the perfect team!! Major key!!!

 

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

 

Hhs!: First of all… My biggest songwriting inspiration is God… Then my environment and my life experiences also play a huge role in my writing… I also listen to my favorite albums and get inspired by the art.

Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

 

Hhs! : well… I don’t have a website right now… But then I use Reverbnation and SoundCloud to share my music.

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

 

Hhs! : whoa!! I’mma pay my Tithe first, then I’ll take care of my family…y’noe  then I’ll invest a huge chunk in my music and business, get a world class studio, totally transform my company. I’d definitely help a Lotta people out here coz folks are suffering out here mehn….  I don’t think I can go a year wiithout working… I’ll probably take 2 months off and get back to more work… The reward for hard work is more work work work work work *in my Rihanna voice*

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

 

Hhs!: radio and social media… Social media is such a powerful and influential tool and that works for me…

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

 

Hhs! : yeah… My mixtape comes out later in the year… Probably August or September, it’s called Alien!!!  I’m really excited about it….

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

Hhs!: I’d probably be playing football (soccer) or I’d had been a broadcaster… That’s what I’m studying in school.

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

 

Hhs! : For me, no matter how much I tried to juggle music had always come first…y’noe. But then I just take one thing at a time…There’s a time for everything..y’noe.

Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?

 

Hhs:

Well..of course The Alien mixtape.. But.. .. Apart from my mixtape, my team is buzzing!!!  My homies, Princess, Tobi Toun, Laolu, BF and Shayy got huge stuff coming through this year as well… Then immediately after the mixtape.. Like I said earlier… More work…. I’ll start work on my Debut album…y’noe.. I ain’t got no chill..  Hahaha….
