Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
I was born in Antofagasta, north of Chile. I decided to become a musician and an artist due to my need to express myself: I needed to communicate my ideas and thoughts that were in my head and I thought art was the best way to do it.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
The name “Hermetico” was born because I feel it somehow a need to resort to isolation, consequently, hermetism to obtain the best results for my work. It is something like going down a hill with the important information you need to share with everyone.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
I think it is brilliant, it allows you to reach people you never thought of immediately reaching and without any type of strings attached to a label or going through difficult processes. Part of my work is available to be downloaded for free and I always try to have this option present in my work. The reason why I think this is the best way to get yourself known; I think copying and sharing music is what it maintains it alive.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
As I said before, I believe letting people accessing your work for free is a really good way to expose your music. Also, never feel discouraged and keep trying!
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
I think to make mistakes is part of life in every aspect of it so it is nothing that is out of the margin. I think it’s the only thing that helps to sort this type of situations is practicing daily. After this, everything flows and things start to work out by themselves.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
I tour as much as possible bit concentrate on local presentations at the moment, I tend to work with visuals and elements that transform the gig into something else; musically, I like to improvise to give it a live touch to the studio songs, do different versions. I use voices a lot and I sample it to create textures with my voice, which makes concerts pretty interesting.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
I am currently finding inspiration walking the streets, through my contact with people, friends and above all; in daily happenings.
My regular composition process starts creating some bases, rythmics bases to which I add lyrics, I see what happens and with that I start my search. Also, when I feel like saying something in a few lines that capture my feelings. That’s when I add sounds, experimenting and seeing what leads me to it.

Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
None, I always have only what I like.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
I would invest in new equipment and to use time to create and to establish some proyects; composing new material and researching.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
Me encuentro terminando de grabar un disco y próximo a realizar un taller de creación colectiva enfocada en la música para una web y un cortometraje.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Creo que una buena forma de difundir el trabajo es mediante las redes sociales como facebook, youtube, twitter, souncloud, Vemo, etc. Pero por sobre todo con una buena pagina web.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
Me gustaría realizar una presentación con David Bowie en ulgún lugar al aire libre en Holanda. David Bowie es un artista al cual admiro mucho y seria un honor compartir con el un momento creativo y Holanda es un país que me intereza conocer, me llama mucho la atención sus parajes y sociedad.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
I want to work on a wholistic project of music and dance, where we join experimental and progressive music with all the mistic of folklore of the Atacama and Aymara region / culture of Chile.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Designing, photography, travelling, writing and working in theatre.
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
The first thing I bought was Abbey Road – The Beatles – and I got so embezzled by the composition, sound and the record art that I told myself “this is what I want to do with my life: Create”
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
I want to be very organized, responsible and committed to the things I do as my work is 100% related to music and with order I get to have the stability to work in my projects and projects of other creative.
