Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?

A friend on twitter recommended your website, we signed up as we were impressed by the worldwide exposure your Music Platform offers bands like ourselves.
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
geonoisefloor (The Maybes)
The Maybes all grew up in and around Glasgow; we formed in 2010 as a duo with guitar and vocals playing various gigs and open mic nights locally and released a number of home recorded song demos on BFW recordings. We released our single September Weekend in 2013.We continued to play local gigs and build our social media profile then in 2015 we released our EP Contra Todos.
Our current line up is geonoisefloor on Guitar and Vocals, Gordon McMachon on bass and Singer Michelle Wray.
We have also featured on various compilation albums including Factory Fast Records CD’s All Out Psychedelly and Crystal Ball.

As well as getting airplay on UK and USA local and internet radio. Our aim is to create new quality music for the 21st century.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
geonoisefloor (The Maybes)
We came up with many names; then we just picked The Maybes at random.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
geonoisefloor (The Maybes)
Online music sharing is a good way to improve your profile; we have released many of our demos on BFW Recordings as well as soundcloud, where we recently had our 10,000th listen.
At the same time major streaming services with their minimal profits for artists are making it totally impossible for any new artists to break through and are helping to completely destroy the entire music business forever, you can see it happening all around, though a lot of people are ignoring it or just don’t want to believe it.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

Doing gigs is essential but can be expensive; finding other local bands that you can share the costs with is a good idea.

Building up a good relationship with DJ’s is also very important, listen to the shows, always support and share the stations on social media, visit the chat rooms and thank them for playing your tunes.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
geonoisefloor (The Maybes)
Anyone can make a mistake, it’s all part of the live experience really, I think the more you practice the better you will get and if you know the material really well it can help you when things don’t go according to plan.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?

We haven’t done any touring but there are many places we would like to go and play if we could afford to do it.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
geonoisefloor (The Maybes)
Playing and writing as much as I can is my way to find musical ideas as well as listening and reading to as much as I can, mostly I find tunes first and then write the lyrics but sometimes words can have their own tune to them.
As soon as I have something I try and work out some MIDI for it, even if it’s just some drums and piano, this helps get the timings right and enables me to demo the track.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

We don’t have our own website; we use soundcloud, iTunes, Spotify, Deezer, Googleplay, CD Baby, and Amazon.
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?

I don’t have an MP3 player.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
geonoisefloor (The Maybes)
It’s a nice idea but I wouldn’t want to take a year off, could I just take the money instead and spend it doing music? That’s probably what I would do.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
geonoisefloor (The Maybes)
At the moment I’m using Sonar LE with my Boss ME25 as the soundcard, I usually use Reason for my MIDI. It’s quite a basic setup so I’m hoping to upgrade as soon as possible.
