Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Domdooley: I traveled all over the world actually. My parents were both in the military so after my brother was born we left the united states and moved to turkey from there we went to japan and now in new jersey it was a great thing to experience because not everyone gets to travel let alone leave the country. No matter where we lived though I always loved music and would always just freestyle no matter where I was at. One day while chilling with my boys we was freestyling and they said I should get in the studio because I went in on the In Paris Kanye and Jay-Z beat. I was kind of nervous at first but I fell in love in the booth.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Domdooley: My parents actually came up with the name. Dom dooley is a short version of my name Dominique Dooley. I got my inspiration from Kendrick Lamar. I love his originality and that’s what I want to be, an origanl artist just me.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Domdooley: honestly all my music has been free so far. I normally just upload my music to soundcloud and share it form there. I’m hoping that one day i get that call that someone interested in paying me for it. I love doing music and sharing my sound so until that day comes ill be on soundcloud.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Domdooley: I haven’t had any airplay yet but some tips would be no matter what don’t give up keep chasing your dreams. Not every song will be a hit and I learned that but keep putting music out there the more you put out there the more chances you’ll have of people listening to your music. Also it takes money to make money, there are other artist out there that will promote your music but you might have to pay a small fee, trust me when I say that it would be worth it that’s more exposure for you and you get to expand your fan base.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
Domdooley: My inspiration comes from all over honestly. Ealier I said I love to freestyle and that is something I always do. That’s how most of my songs start I’ll just start freestyling and then I get the beat and go do it. Most of my songs are actually freestyles. I like the pure raw feeling of knowing that I did something just straight off the top of my head. When i write songs though I start with a freestyle I was doing.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
Domdooley: I don’t have a website right now but I’m working on setting up a few social media accounts just for my music. I use soundcloud to share my music right now and from there I share it on facebook twitter Instagram and snapchat. I plan on setting up a website sometime either this year or next year not really sure yet.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
Domdooley: Half a millions dollars I could do a lot with that but first I would give some to my family help them out a little bit. With the rest i would pay bill and once the bills are paid I would basically live in the studio for the whole time I’m off. I love the atmosphere of being in the studio with some of my friends and knowing were going to come out with some new heat makes me want to go right back in the booth.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Domdooley: The way i promote my music is pretty basic. I upload it onto soundcloud and then I share it on all my social media like Instagram snapchat twitter and facebook. after i share it on social media i copy the link and send it to my friends i tell everyone if they really like it then share it with their friends and shout it out on their social media.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Domdooley: I have a few projects that I’m working on but I’m not going to say too much about it. I like to surprise my fans when i release a song, they never see it coming but i will definitely have a lot for them to look forward to.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Domdooley: My dreams were always to do music and to be a physical therapist. I always had big dreams and plan to accomplish all my goals. If I wasn’t doing music I would be in school to get my degree in kinesiology. I love sports so this was my way to always be around them. On top of that physical therapy is something that people will always need, people get injured everyday.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
Domdooley: Its hard sometimes I really would love to just go to the studio but life wont allow it. What I do is save up some money and when I get some free time ill book the studio right away. I would love to have a studio that I could go to whenever I want.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?
Domdooley: Fans have a lot to look forward to coming from me. In 2016 I plan on dropping a few things not going to say too much but they could definitely look forward to a lot more Dom Dooley
