Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Dj Lessu: My stage name is Dj Lessu but my real name is Andrija Sucic. I come from Zagreb, Croatia and that’s where I live right now. I’m sixteen years old and I have been listening to house and hip hop music since I was 7. I decided to become an artist after I watched F. Gary Gray’s Straight Outta Compton and that gave me inspiration. I started on an amateur website called BeatLab but I soon moved on Fl Studio.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Dj Lessu: Well, most of my friends call me Sule, then I reversed it and added an “s” so it says Lessu
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Dj Lessu: I think that it is a great way to be heard and promote your music. I haven’t thought about giving my music away for free but anyone who likes it and is interested in it can download it, especially if they would use it as inspiration to create their own music.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Dj Lessu: I can’t give any advice because I’m a start up, but I can tell them that being consistent, authentic and loving what you do is the key to success.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
Dj Lessu: I don’t write songs, I compose songs in a music making program and I usually spend the first couple of hours just making different melodies that I will use in my song, then I play around with the drums and the bass. I find inspiration in artists such as Wolfgang Gartner, Tiesto, Benny Benassi, David Guetta, Hardwell…
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music
Dj Lessu: I share my music on Soundcloud, Youtube, Twitter, Google+ and Facebook where I have my official page.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
Dj Lessu: I would probably go on a trip around the world with my laptop, of course, so I can still make music. I would spend it on quality music equipment such as speakers, a microphone, a music synthesizer and some plugins for Fl Studio. I would also give money away to charity and give my family some money so they can pay off their mortgages. I’d spend it, of course, on food, some video games, maybe a motorcycle and on parties.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Dj Lessu: I post my music on five social networks and I think Twitter is the best way for your music to be heard, to make friends and to connect with people who are interested in your music.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Dj Lessu: I don’t have a plan in particular, I’m just making music all the time and my attention right now is on being heard and finding the right audience that will support what I do.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Dj Lessu: I would be probably devote my time to some of my hobbies; kickboxing, skateboarding and football.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
Dj Lessu: Well, It’s kind of hard because my school is not easy and whenever I go to study I somehow end up behind the computer in Fl Studio, but I know school should be number one and I’m trying to balance those two.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?
Dj Lessu: They can look forward to plenty of tracks and new interesting projects.
