Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?

 

Dirty Neptune:  “Exposed Vocals, in our opinion, is a very positive thing for the EDM community & for artists in general. It allows the spreading of art & dance music from fan to fan, with little negativity. We found them through social media. Ex: Twitter” – DN

 

Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

 

Dirty Neptune:  Dylan grew up in Scottsdale, Arizona, while Gordon grew up in Pasadena, California. We met through a crazy life/death occurrence at the beginning of college at UofA (Arizona). Ever since that day we’ve been strong friends, living together and making music. Gordon’s musical intuition for guitar and bass alongside Dylan’s Ableton knowledge, Dirty Neptune formed

 

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

 

Dirty Neptune: Albeton Live 9. Great musical program and software. An audio clip we found on there was named “Dirty Neptune”

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

 

Dirty Neptune: Yes, of course. Music deserves to be shared, compiled, and arranged by everyone and anyone. When you have a beautiful original masterpiece that you’ve spent long hours working on, that’s when you can say, “Hey maybe I’ll put it up for money.” Other than that, if you use someone else’s material, it should be free.

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

Dirty Neptune: Just keep working at it. You need to love what you’re doing & not give up when you get stuck. Sounds easier said than done, but once you buckle down and start meet people/make friends doing the same thing, you can push each other.

 

Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?

 

Dirty Neptune: So far we just jam for local house parties, but of course we make mistakes, we’re not nearly to where we want to be.

 

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

 

Dirty Neptune:  Sometimes we’ll hear something on the radio, and go “Wow we could use this,” or “We could slow this down/speed it up, and use it somewhere.” It’s crazy how when you enjoy music so much, you think of some crazy material.

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

 

Dirty Neptune: Hopefully get more software, definitely buy our parents something nice, & pay off school. The time would be spent hopefully traveling & compiling more deep/future house music.

Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?

 

Dirty Neptune: We have two large Pyrotech Speakers & Laundpad 64 bit. Ableton has been very successful in finding our sound.

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

 

Dirty Neptune: Social Media is a huge market right now, and it’s at everyone’s disposal. Through all these different portals artists are able to share music, information, & spread positivity within the community. Twitter & Soundcloud are our personal favorites.

Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?

 

Dirty Neptune: Oliver Heldens, or perhaps one of the Pardon My French dudes. (Snake, Mercer, Maala, Tchami) The whole style of all those artists is so hardworking & unique. We love/appreciate it.

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

 

Dirty Neptune: We plan to put up more mashups, as well as an original track soon that’ll hopefully be positively taken in. We compile all this great music together for the mashups because it’s fun to enjoy while partying, studying, or going out. Especially when no one can decide on a song. Hope you guys enjoy as well.

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

 

Dirty Neptune: Gordon would most likely be a teacher (plans to be). Dylan plans to do sports marketing and consumer science post-college. Both are in our junior years now.

 

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

 

Dirty Neptune: Get the homework done first. Beats come second.

Dirty Neptune: Deep House. Positivity. & Helping your friends.
