Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

 

DEZID: I was born and raised in the great city of Chicago. Ever since I was young I had music all around me. My aunt was a musician and my father played guitar and was in bands when he was younger. I always had a dream of being a performer so I had my father teach me how to play guitar at a young age. I grew up listening to mainly rock n roll but then later fell in love with hip hop and edm. I self taught myself piano and after going to my first big edm concert I knew that is what genre I want to do. After learning how to work with DAWs, such as Ableton, I put a lot of hours of practice into it and thats where I started releasing all my tracks.

 

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

 

DEZID: Once I felt that I can make it in the industry I started brainstorming ideas. After long lists I chose DEZID because there is a secret behind it. Maybe one day I will reveal what that secret is!

 

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

 

DEZID: I love music sharing. I make music for the love of music and not the paycheck that comes at the end of it. I want to inspire people and bring people together with my music so I do give out my music for free. All my songs are downloadable through Soundcloud!

 

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

 

DEZID: Go get it yourself! Unless you are already a headlining act, no one will call you offering you a gig in the beginning. Not matter what kind of artist you are you need to make the connections yourself. People will tell you no all the time but do not give up. The connections you make with people is the only way you will make it in the industry. Pick up to phone and talk to owners of bars and clubs and once they see you are good the will spread the word.

 

 

 

 

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

 

DEZID: Inspiration comes from everywhere. I had song ideas come to me while listening to music of all kinds of genres but I also find inspiration in weird times too. Many times I will go for a walk to clear my head and sometimes it will come to me. I always write down ideas and then try to expand on those when actually producing. Sometimes these ideas will just go to the trash but sometimes it will be my next big song!

 

Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

 

DEZID: Soundcloud is the best way to make music available. However, getting people to listen to your music is the real trick. I use Twitter to connect with individuals about my music and to promote new releases. Every time they click on a release it takes them to my Soundcloud and then they get to hear other songs I have. Twitter is a great way to make fans and keep them up to date about exciting new things.

 

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

 

DEZID: I would use some of it to buy new equipment for my studio, give some to family and charity, and save the rest. In the future I may need it because in the music industry you need to spend some to make some. With my year off I would travel somewhere in the world and look for new inspirations. I would use this time to focus on my music. There’s no such thing as time off!

 

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

 

DEZID: Many people think that having thousands of followers means you will be famous. I think having hundreds of fans is better. I use Twitter to connect with a lot of people andI try to get back to people that like my music. I love when I get mail of people telling me they fell in love with my music.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

 

DEZID: Currently I am working on a few new project that I am hoping to release in the next upcoming weeks. One of which might be huge. It is an original song and is sounding great so far! Not releasing it until it’s perfect so stay tuned.

 

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

 

DEZID: I really do not know. I currently am going to school for production which helps with my current productions. This is what I want to do so it’s what I focus on. If I wasn’t making music I probably would be in a studio working on other artist’s releases.

 

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

 

DEZID: Staying on top of responsibilities is all about planning ahead so you don’t get overwhelmed when things overlap. I have a schedule and knowing what I need to do helps with planning my time for my days. I don’t want to put myself in a situation where I have to choose a better option. I would rather be able to do both and explore my options that way.
