Delorme is a Electronica Music Writer and Producer based out of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He started creating for the Electronica genre in 2010.

He also edits and produces all of his own videos. His latest videos are always posted on his website musicbydelorme.com.

Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

DELORME: I grew up in a small town about 2 hours north of Toronto, where there wasn’t a lot to do. I’ve had an interest in music as long as I can remember. I started trying to write my own lyrics and melodies around the age of 9 on a Casio SK-1 sampling keyboard and have been creating music ever since.

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

DELORME: It’s my last name. Early on in my career I met a radio personality named “DJ Rawkin Ray Ivey”, who has become a very good friend of mine over the years. I was telling him that every time I started a music project it was a challenge to come up with a new name. “Why do you have to come up with a NEW name?” he said. “Just use YOUR name.” So, I took his advice.

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

DELORME: I’ve offered free downloads through my twitter account @musicbydelorme in the past and my music is on soundcloud.com/delorme where everybody can listen for free.
Obviously, I’d prefer if people bought my music from iTunes or CdBaby, but at this point in my career I’m just happy that people are listening and enjoying what I put out for them.

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

DELORME: I don’t play live, but I have gotten a bit of airplay so far. Radiocoolio.com DJ’s @Cjiis and @iDogot3 have been kind enough to play “Do I Come Here Often?” multiple times.

I’ve also been featured on local college stations such as w0lfmusic.com via @Myrwolf.

My advice is to network and promote your music wherever you can. Treat it like a job. You have to be doing this because you can’t live without doing it, not because you’re chasing money or fame.

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

DELORME: I’m inspired by everything that I hear. All genres, all sounds, all noises. Early 80’s music inspiration can definitely be heard in my songs.
Usually everything starts with either a melody I’ve written on guitar or keyboards or a beat. Then I track it on my computer, build on it and arrange it until I’m satisfied with the song.

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

DELORME: I would give most of it to my family, who have endlessly supported me and my music career.

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

DELORME: At the moment, I’d have to say that being active daily on my website, Twitter, YouTube and Soundcloud has been what’s worked best for bringing attention to my music.

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

DELORME: Rather than make people wait a year or two for a new album, I’m trying to put out a new single every month. In March, I put out “Embrace the Night Electric”

And in April I have another single coming out. The song title and release date have yet to be announced but if you join my mailing list you’ll be informed the minute it comes out.

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

DELORME: Listening to music!

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

DELORME: You have to make it a part of your daily schedule and be persistent about it.

DELORME: I’m going to keep creating and putting out more songs and videos!
