Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

 

DcThaDuke7:  I Grew Up On the Eastside of Long Beach, California. Growing Up I Spent Most My Time in Compton, Westside South Central or Louisiana. I’ve Always Been Rapping Since a Young Age in Elementary School. But What Made Me Decide to Become an artist Was Inspired by multiple sources.

People would encourage me to take is seriously, say they liked my style & I can actually rap. Also I Really Don’t appreciate or enjoy listening to any of this new noise they call music. Last I just Feel This Is my Last Option to do What I Love & Live my Life How I Want to.

 

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

 

DcThaDuke7: My Name Dc Is my Initials, also an Acronym for Diverse Conscious [Won’t Display a Simple Mind for No One] The Duke Is My Nickname from my Grandmother Since I Was a Baby. So I Combined The 2 as DcThaDuke7. Along with The 7 As The God # An Its tatted on My Right Wrist. I’m Also Known as “Poetic Pistol” a Name Giving by My PBG Ent. Brothers.

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

 

DcThaDuke7: I Feel Online Sharing Is Very Valuable, because you Can Network with People You Don’t Know. Also You Your Able to Connect with People you cannot Meet Physically. But It Also Can Get You Caught Up in The Social Media Life, most Artist Need to Understand You Still Need That Street Hustle. I’m Talking CDs Out the Trunk Work. I do Give Music Away for Free, because I’m only a local artist For Now. But Free Won’t Be for Long.

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

DcThaDuke7: I’ll Tell Them to Keep Grinding, Stay Motivated and Humble. I know It May Be Hard to Be Patient. But You Also Can’t Rush What You Don’t Control. Just Make Your Best Music and Promote It to Your Best Ability. Not Much I Can Really Tell them, I’m Working My Way Up Myself at This Moment.

 

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

 

DcThaDuke7: I Get Inspiration from many types of ways, such as brainstorming with my team, listening to my past songs, reading or just watching a movie. Sometimes I Might Spark a Blunt and That Might Just Spark an Idea to Pop in My Head. Playing Beats and Catching the Feel Might Spark a Concept for Me to Start Writing. Things I’ve Been Thru from Memories I reminisce, all of things these take part in inspiring My Songwriting. My Usual Song Writing Process Is Me Being by Myself with Beats Blasting On Repeat. I’m in the Dark with Little light, enjoying My Blunt, Just Me and My Notepad.

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

 

DcThaDuke7: With Half a Million Dollars an A Year Off, I Would Still Be Finding Ways to Make My Brand Stronger, continuing to Find Ways to Expand My LA 2 LA movement. I enjoy the Working & Staying Busy When It’s Something I Love Doing. I would Spend That Money On Tools that will Help My Music Grow, Such as promotion, equipment and beats. Use That Money to Invest and add more half a million dollars checks to the bank.

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

 

DcThaDuke7: Different Websites and blogs help promote music. Also money and having people behind u that support you and believe in your talent will help big time. The Best Promotion Comes from You Yourself being public and being out there for people to meet and know u in person.

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

 

DcThaDuke7: My Next Project Will Be Here Around the Middle of the Summer. It Will Be Called “My Father Rest N Heaven” [M.F.R.N.H.]  That Title Is Inspired by Me Losing My Dad Last Summer Due to Street/Gang Violence.

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

DcThaDuke7: To Be Honest I Would Probably Be in Some Trouble Some Where Right Now. There Has Been a lot of Things Happening in My Personal Life Right Now Outside of This Music Life, that Can Have Me Losing My mind right Now. But I’m maintaining for Now.

 

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

 

DcThaDuke7: I Feel Music Is My Responsibility right now. I Have No Kids, I’m Not in No Relationship. It’s Just Me & I just Want to Be in The Right Position to Create That Family. Give them that beautiful life to live.

Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?

 

DcThaDuke7: Fans Should Look Forward to More Creativity, New Projects, New Music Videos, New Shows and be Ready to Grow with Me. Be Ready for Me to Take Off, Give You some real Life Music.
