Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

 

Dafs: I was born & raised in a town in England called Reading. I grew up in the south of reading, Whitley. Coming from a town which holds one of the UK’s largest music festivals, naturally I grew up loving music. My brother is a drummer & he was where I got my first chance to play an instrument. All my life ive been experimenting with different instruments & genres of music. So the option of me wanting to become an artist was always there really

 

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

 

Dafs: My name is nickname that ive had since early secondary school. Dafs is short for daffy, like daffy duck. Ive always loved ducks since I was kid, don’t know why just always have. Ive ben told it fits well cus im me. Despicable like daffy…

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

 

Dafs: I think its great! Ive only recently started to use online music sharing like soundcloud & dreamy. I think they both are great. I have done to people in my local area, I have a couple tracks that can be downloaded on soundcloud & personally everyone has to start somewhere, you cant expect to be paid straight up as a newcomer artist.

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

Dafs: Share your music. Just share, share, share! Put yourself out there, ask a blog/blogger if they can share your music, send it everywhere, play small gigs like friends of friends. Slowly you will see a fan base rise

 

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

 

Dafs: For inspiration, The local crews & artists around Reading. Most of those guys started in their bedroom/basements or sheds, now they have their own studios, playing up & down the country. They inspire me to never give up on what I do. As for a process, I don’t really have one, I just work. Trying new things, new genres. Either things will just pop into my head & work straight there or I will make a project, keep it a work in progress until im fully happy with it.

Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

 

Dafs: Yes, I use soundcloud, Dreammy & Myspace.

 

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

 

Dafs: Invest. I would invest in a whole new setup, make a little recording studio & I would start work on releasing an EP & follow up album.

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

 

Dafs: These days social networking/media sites are the centre of everyone’s attention so get on them all. Facebook. Twitter. Myspace. Soundcloud, all these websites have millions of people using them on a monthly basis so the internet is a HUGE billboard for all us artists.

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

 

Dafs: Im trying to get out there more, make more tracks & share them online. But im working on getting some gigs to further my career in music. Also im trying to form a crew together, get things popping off!

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

 

Dafs: I wouldn’t be doing a lot, I mean I have other hobbies & interests but music is the number one. If I wasn’t making music I really do not know what id be doing.

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

 

Dafs: I make a point of making time for music, even if its only an hour in a day. A day without music, is a day wasted in my opinion.

Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?

 

Dafs: More tunes definitely, hopefully some gigs. Im looking to get a little crew together with my two bestfriends & keep bringing bangers to my fan base & any future fans of mine & theres.
