Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
The name is my actual name.(Christopher Hicks) Shortened and funked out for artistic purposes. When I was growing up there were about 100 People named Christopher in the neighborhoods and the schools. So avoid confusion people would often say the either ‘C’ followed by the last name. Or the ‘Chris’ and the last name as one whole name. ChrisHicks . My dad Steve Hicks made these mixtapes hosted by ‘Steve Mix’. So I went with Chris.Hix and the period in between is to make it easier to find on the Internet.

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
I do all the time! In the end it’s art to me. I feel like you can look at it from two points of view. You approach it as an art to be shared or a commodity to be bought and sold. I chose the artistry.

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Can somebody give me some?!! Lol, I’m still trying to learn my way through it. You know doing it by yourself it’s whatever you make of it. If there is an opportunity, take it. Be humble And always think of ways to advance yourself further. You are your biggest fan and biggest supporter

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
Songs come to me like dreams sometimes. There are times I am working on a beat and the song comes along. See things in the world, dealing with things personally. So many things can give you an idea for a song… You just have to be open.

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Well, I just make the music and put it on the net.. I let the music promote itself…like street art. It’s there if you would like to take a listen. And I’m here if you want to know more about it. And I do preform on occasion to get the fulfillment of being an artist…

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Sure do. ‘Blue Monday’ mixtape. It’s available, hit me on the IG: not_so_pretty_boi or Facebook and I will tell how to get you hands on it.. Also I’m in a group called KutZoo Green (@kutzoogreen_ep) out of East Point, Ga and we just finished up an Ep ‘Never Cook Bacon With Your Shirt Off’ and that should be hitting the airwaves in the next couple of weeks. Lastly, ‘The Atlanta Black Cracker’ mixtape my next solo project should be finishing up by the end of the year.

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
When I’m not making music I work as a printer lol I manage the large format dept. for a print company in Atlanta

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
It’s tough, because the job pays the bills and the music soothes the soul. I hope that the music one day allows me to be comfortable, but if the music ever became work I wouldn’t do it..

Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?
More music! New videos and anyways I can express myself through this medium. Mixtapes and performances are on the way. Maybe a listening party, you never know

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
I would buy a used car. (Acura 3.2 CL S-type) Pay off my credit cards. Pay up my child support for a couple years. Get a little house and make some music for real!!
