Exposed Vocals Interviews ‘Cat’ from Addison, NY

Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

 

Cat: I am currently still in my hometown, Addison, NY. It’s a small town where everyone knows everyone. The community is my biggest support group or you can say “fans”. When I was younger my mom used to put me in shows and we figured out I had a good voice…but it wasn’t til I was about 13 when I posted my first cover on Facebook and it became a hit, everyone loved it.

 

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

 

Cat: Cat? Well as I got older I never really liked the name Catherine and wanted something different. Catie or Cathy never fit me so then I started going by Cat which is what my grandma always called me since I was a very little kid. Just a nickname very close to my heart.

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

 

Cat: I love the idea of it but I’ve never done it! It seems like a great way to get your music out there.

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

Cat: I don’t really know of many bands in my small town or anything…I know I ton of local singers that would love to get noticed though.

 

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

 

Cat: I believe it or not, I’ve never actually written a song…but I have been working on doing that very soon since I’m taking a music theory class at school!

Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

 

Cat: YouTube and soundcloud are my go to!

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

 

Cat: I’d most likely buy instruments, a car, and give the rest of the money to my moms charity “ACT N DO”, they deliver thanksgiving meals to families in need every year and help a lot in the community.

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

 

Cat: just sharing it on all of my social media and asking friends to repost it!

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

 

Cat: nothing really yet!

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

Cat: most likely just dancing. I’d be lost without making music though.

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

 

Cat: I’ve just taught myself how since I was a kid. I’ve always been a busy person and that’s how I keep my grades up. Not having a ton of time on your hands makes you get things done faster because you only have a certain amount of time. If I wasn’t busy, I’d be too lazy.

Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?

Cat: tons of new covers and possibly some original songs and collabs with other artists!
