Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

 

Brittini Ward: I grew up in Detroit, MI. I would not necessarily say that I decided to become an artist. However, I would say that I chose to accept my musical/creative gifts because I found that it is where I find purpose.

 

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

 

Brittini Ward:  Although, white privilege is very prevalent and real in today’s society. I wanted to change the narrative and begin to speak on how we as melanated beings have physical, mental and spiritual powers without the approval of society.

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

 

Brittini Ward: Currently, I do not look to generate revenue from Black Privilege. I am simply spreading the message for free.

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

Brittini Ward: I would definitely say follow your heart. Do not put out music to please others or to simply generate more exposure or money. If you are speaking from the heart your message will be heard and supported by those who are connected to you. Any other promotion will only be because of the hype and in the long run those “fans” come and go… Kendrick Lamarr said it best “…when S#&* hits the fan are you still a fan? “

 

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

 

Brittini Ward: My inspiration comes from my people….the love of my people and the backlash we receive from the mainstream media/society that we are the lesser with nothing to offer.

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

 

Brittini Ward: Personally, I would pay off my student loans and save the rest. And continue to fulfill my dreams that money prohibited. I would most definitely travel, travel and travel.

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

 

Brittini Ward: Currently, I use Word of mouth, Social media, and actually going out to small venues to perform my poetry/music etc.

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

 

Brittini Ward: Currently, I am focusing on my blog site and asking people

Brittini Ward t: Continuing my education, traveling, perfecting my crafts…

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

 

Brittini Ward: To be honest sometimes I slip up and one trumps the other, however, I try to set aside days and times in which I only work on Black Privilege. Whenever I feel inspired I take notes and re-visit them whenever I can dedicate my full energy towards it.

Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?

 

Brittini Ward:

Fans should look forward to more positive messages surrounding people of color! They should also look forward to more music/poetry/videos/artwork that demonstrates the eclectic essence of Black privilege!
