Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
I think it’s a marvelous tool. I find it not only useful for myself & sharing my own music, but also for discovering other great artists out there that I feel a unique connection with through their music. I do give my music away for free because I don’t believe that art is about the profit in terms of cash. What I earn from my art is the satisfaction of sharing my soul with the world & seeing a worldly reaction in return, you get me? Music is art. I think money makes things unlucky.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Her name is Caroline Hedrick. She’s got a ridiculous voice, although she doesn’t show it off because she doesn’t believe it.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
I get song writing inspiration from my every day life, really. There is joy and there is pain. There are so many things I see, so many things I observe, things I take in and things I let out. I could write a song about anything really, because anything that is everything makes me feel. So there it is, that is the very core of where my inspiration comes from: feeling. Emotion. Raw emotion, me at my very core. My creative process always starts with a beat, and then I freestyle sing over it. I find that whatever I spit makes sense in the end because it came from somewhere deep inside me and I can find meaning in everything. Then I’ll put an effect I made on garageband over it that makes my singing sound distant and eerie, I’ll send the song to my iTunes, then upload it on Soundcloud. It’s not very professional at all, that’s what I love about it.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
I use Soundcloud definitely, and I just recently made http://brojas.webs.com so people can contact me & find my tumblr/twitter/youtube, etc.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
I would travel. I would collect art. I would go to little coffee shops & hidden gas stations. I’d visit lakes & skinny dip, I’d go sight seeing. I’d spend half that money on food, probably. I’d cash out homeless people along the way. I’d take my little sister to Toys R Us & tell her get whatever the fuck you want, we’re rich. I’d buy myself CareBear stuffed animals & makeup & clothes. I’d go to concerts & meet Lana Del Rey.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
I don’t promote my music, actually! I let the universe work it’s magic for me. I let the universe bring people to me.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
I am in an endless process of creating. Every day to me is a project.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Crying.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
What are responsibilities? I live simply by my own laws. And those laws include doing only what makes me happy. Therefor, nothing to me is a responsibility. I am just dancing the pretty dance we call life, forever and always.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?
Oh dear, that is but a huge secret.
