Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

 

Blue Jay Way: I was born in Chernigov, where I live until now. Since childhood I was engaged in boxing professionally, but soon realized that it was not mine. After retiring from the sport, I started to master playing the guitar. Soon the idea to gather my own group came to me.I was born in Chernigov, where I live until now. Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

 

Blue Jay Way: The name for the group I thought out only after we have recorded the first single. In the evening, the day before the release, I listened to the Beatles. I was very surprised after another song began to play, because the sound was not pretty from the Beatles. I looked at the title of the song and liked it and my group too. After that, we began to be called «Blue Jay Way».

 

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

 

Blue Jay Way: The group that can’t boast army of fans will be glad to any way of distribution and PR. And so in the early it should not think about the money. Our songs are played on the national radio in Ukrain, and we didn’t get anything for that. But I think after that people started to be more interested in us, and it is the most important.

 

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

 

Blue Jay Way: The most important thing is the start. To this start a high-quality material is necessary to interest the public. To get into the rotation in Ukraine is very difficult, because our priority is pop-music, and good underground bands disappear without achieving success, because of concert organizers and radio stations simply ignore them. In our country to make money through music, you need to do not something that you want, but what radio stations want to hear from you.

 

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

 

Blue Jay Way: Our songs appear because of fortuity. All songs were written under the impression from this or that event. And every song we convey the mood under which it was written

 

Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

 

Blue Jay Way: At this stage, we don’t have your own site. But to promote our songs we use social networks primarily VK, Twitter and have a page on Facebook.

 

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

 

Blue Jay Way: If I had a chance to get a million dollars, I would have founded an independent record label for the promotion of the unknown and independent groups that have their own sound, but do not have support.

 

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

 

Blue Jay Way: The best way to distribute it is online. After recording the single, we send it to float freely on the Internet space, where it is found by different people, who admire with our song and download it or turn off at the first seconds.

 

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

 

Blue Jay Way: We have only one project – Blue Jay Way. It is on him we are working and trying to discover something new. Our task is to show the world that there is a qualitative sound in Ukraine, which has the right to life. And of course we want to go beyond the Ukrainian underground scene.

 

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

 

Blue Jay Way: It is hard to imagine now what would have been if I had not found myself in the music. I think I would look for myself in something what is not actually mine. Perhaps my priority was to finish study and go to teach history at school.

 

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

 

Blue Jay Way: Not earning by music, it is very difficult to keep this activity in priority, but if there is a desire to change the situation – you change it. Our group consists of students, I (frontman) older then all, I am 18, Roman and Kiril are 17. Kyrill (our drummer), notwithstanding of his 17, has become Chernigov John Bonham. Roma (our guitarist) … it’s just a real idol for our groupies. Notwithstanding the study, we have the opportunity and time to make music.

 

Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?

 

Blue Jay Way: 2016 promises to be spectacular. In the summer we are going to play on stages of different festivals and to go on tour in Ukraine. There is an opportunity to perform and outside Ukraine. There is to make a clip in our plans. In the near future – single record. A possible variant is the record of the first full-length album at the end of the year.
