Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

Black Magick Floe: Well I grew up In Virginia Beach Va, with my Mom and Pops in my earlier years but i lived with my grandparents a larger chunk of my life. My dad and mom split so I was with her more and saw him on occasion. I grew up all around the 7 cities here though;I’ve been all around VA but made my home not too far from the Oceanfront.Me deciding to do music was a choice i clearly made when I wrote my first rap at like 7 years old which i can still recite actually and im sure in a future interview ill be asked to spit it. I used to write songs with my brothers and they would play the instruments and sing and i would add vocals to whatever they did and just make it fit. This went on for maybe two thre years until i started writing more of my own music for myself and by the time I was 15 I went and recorded my first professional song in the studio which was entitled “On Fire” produced by local producer Solomon Midgette *Blackkeys. I of course in that time wrote several remixes to popular songs and that became my pastime, remixing songs and to this day i love hearing a artist do a song and then totally giving my perspective on it.

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

Black Magick Floe: The name is actually probably a very important element about me as a person than about my music however it all ties in to me; The Magick spelling of my name is rooted back in the old days for when they claimed practicing any other belief systems or involving oneself in “magick” was evil or frowned upon and in lots of cases people were killed for simply utilizing nature and the things around them to heal and be at peace with life. I do believe in magick but my definition of magick is simply ‘manipulating or entanglement with seen or unseen forces for a desired effect” whether that be good or bad will be up to the discretion of the sorcerer at hand. 🙂 I feel also the color black in our lifetime is always associated with something negative like death and things dark so i decided to add that to my name just to shed some light on it and turn that around.

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

Black Magick Floe: Its required. In this day you need material. Lots of it. You have to have enough material to completely immerse your listener in your sounds not too overwhelm but to show them your different styles and different approaches to music. I am constantly working on new material and releasing some for free just to give a taste of what im working on next, mostly remixes but original pieces as well. You have to give away a lot of free music until people catch wave of your music and start checking for you themselves. Once people are checking for you they wont mind paying because they obviously looking you up for a reason.

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

Black Magick Floe: Talk to anyone and everyone. Everyone even people you wouldn’t expect to consume your music is a potential fan. If you think that way and you get all different kinds of people listening to your music than you will see the results of that; diverse demographics which is key. The more people are talking bout you or seeing your name pop up everywhere they are more willing to work with you in business ventures, gigs etc im still trying at this point myself its a long road but i love what i do. I make music for people who enjoy good sounds

Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?

Black Magick Floe: Most mistakes that one would make would be self noticed meaning the crowd wouldn’t catch unless extra attention was placed like forgetting your lines, but theres always ways to regroup and you have to just think fast and catch back your tempo or do ad libs something to fill in the gaps or to incite crowd participation.

Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?

Black Magick Floe Tour yet? No but maybe when everything is said and done this year i could be you never know. I definitely have several material myself and then with other artists like my partner KO we have an entire album together of great music thats being released very soon.

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

Black Magick Floe: It varies. Most of my rhymes however start with a free styled intro: ill be doing something totally unrelated, spit some bars and they will half the time be something hot so i will write them in my phone and add them to a list of unconnected lines and then at some point ill go in there add to it and make it a finished verse when i feel those starting lines will set the tone on a particular song appropriately.

Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

Black Magick Floe: I dont have a music website as of yet but i will definitely by the start of Sept. once we have some nice videos shot which is what we are focused on right now is getting some nice visuals circulating. But for now I have material on Soundcloud and spinrilla. Most my music is available for free download and to the songs i haven’t released I send some via email to true TTG fans on occasion.

Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?

Black Magick Floe: I dont think any thing i listen to is embarrassing however I dont think people realize I listen to lots of reggae and occasional edm; Im more eclectic than most assume initially in my music taste. But yeah nothing embarrassing maybe some tracks that take personal taste to enjoy such as my actual biological brother releasing a track called “Vegata” which is on my soundcloud i really enjoy

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

Black Magick Floe: Man this is the question I was waiting for. This would change the face of the music industry alone. I would put together the most unheard of features in the industry but they all would coincide and at the end of the day would be considered good music no matter what genre they want to label it as. I dont believe too much in genres. I just think music is music and if it sounds good people will listen, But I would probably write the music, at least three albums worth, in another country so i can get different experiences and input for the pieces. Since the funds would be present i know i could afford all the promotion i needed so it would just be up to me to ensure im giving the people something they would enjoy. This would open up doors for many people like myself who want a career in the entertainment field that i already work with so i would be able to pay them for their services and get them in the right eyes so that everyone around me can be successful

Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?

Black Magick Floe: Im currently going to 2 professional studios here in VA Beach under Soundvision Studios and also with Biggz and his camp whose another local artist here gaining attention and they definitely have the nueman microphones and the nice mixers and all that however at my house i do have a humble set up for demos and mixtape type tracks which i do crank out a decent mix but im nowhere professional yet but i will get better on the engineering side for sure,

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

Black Magick Floe: Well currently believe it or not im doing everything you witness kinda somewhat alone, I dont have a manager or street team just another artist named KO and people who support our sound over here in Virginia Beach who will share or music on sites and some folk who will spin our tracks in some popular clubs otherwise its all random acts of creativity. The most effective way to promote your music though is getting it to people who already have a large audience and getting them to blast it or do a feature. I feel when people hear a new artist they like they will look them up and see what else they have to offer

Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?

Black Magick Floe: This was a very good interview btw didnt expect this, but man probably Big Sean or Kanye West. Only cause Big Sean is my favorite artist because he reminds me of myself so much the way he approaches his music. We both write songs not just raps but when it comes to spitting if anybody want it i feel we can deliver some quality heat but turn around and make a love song and it will be on point. kanye just because of his unorthodox personality and i know i will learn and have fun around him in a productive environment,

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

Black Magick Floe; Im currently working on a classics mixtape… thats all i will say for now.

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

Black Magick Floe: I would be still traveling the world somehow seeing different things. Im a sight seer. So i would probably work a job in which i could get long breaks or start my own business of some sort that would enable me to travel. Im currently a server at a local pizza joint by day and a music artist by night.

Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?

Black Magick Floe: First Album i bought was 8701…. if you dont know who that is or what im referencing you should be ashamed! That man sings his ass off and the cover was sexy as shit, no im not gay but he had the jacket witht he chest coming out and the pose come on man where would be without “U got it bad” “U remind me” list goes on.

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

Black Magick Floe: Lets just say it took me five days to do this interview….thats how life juggles me. 🙁

Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?

Black Magick Floe: Look to finally seeing me in a video or two, a whole new project with KO from TTG our group and also new mixtape at some point. Just stay on my social networks soundcloud and IG !
