Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

 

Big: My name is Chauncey Dale Baylor I was born and raised in Newark NJ the oldest of three kids my dad always would be singing he swore he was so smooth lol him and my mom would play there records al the time from Al green the Iseley Brothers, Blue Majic  Earth Wind and Fire Frankie Beverly and Maze and many more and I was fascinated with Hip Hop Run DMC, LL COOL J, Whoodini, The Fat Boyz, Public Enemy, Redman who is from Newark, Queen Latifah, Naughty by Nature, BDP  I was a break dancer, then started Rapping in high school and fell in love with it then when JayZ came along it was over! I always loved music because of my parents they had the craziest record collection so I was expose to all types of music

 

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

 

Big: My stage name is Big Jerz it was a nickname cause I’m a big guy from Jersey,and I then added I95 Music Group because that’s the road that leads to Jersey

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

 

Big: I think online music sharing is great there’s so many ways to expose yourself now especialy through social media as well and I’ve given a lot of my music away for free I think you have to at a certain point to get exposure and build your fanbase

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

Big: advice on gigs airplay,well for me sites like Revernation is a great out let they have this thing called a gig finder that’s list in your local area or outside your area that list places for your genre of music that hire bands,also open mic night a big help to show case your talent but first and foremost make sure your paperwork is straight the you can find most stations in your area or online radio will play local artist if your paperwork is straight one of the stations in my area do a show once a week were they showcase local talent and the listeners call in and vote and if your song get somany votes then you make the cut for permanent rotation

 

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

 

Big: Wel my inspiration as far as song writing came from my Pastor he was a great musician and he would play on sundays mornings during offering he would come up with a melody and he would tell me this what I got I’m going to play it twice and you better give me something and you had 800 stes of eye looking at you gotta come up with something one of my favorite singers is Jill Scott and she said something so profound and it stuck you can’t really write anything till you go through something the best song have come out of pain, or some sort of struggle also when it come to certain tracks who ever the producer is he felt a certain way about the beat and titkled it so i take that title and try and tap into the feeling they had in making it I put the track on and zone out.

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

 

Big: I would pay off all my debt and start my own label and artist development agency.

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

 

Big:  I promote by performing social media and any new sites that I research that promote independent artist like the “Beat100” performing works best for me networking hands on

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

 

Big: End of july early august I’m dropping my indie project ” Let’s take a ride” nice fun summertime jam done with all live instruments

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

 

Big:  I was a Regional Manager with this company called LabCorp a phlebotomy manager so I would definitely be doing that

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
