Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Barrage aka Mr.Rollsomethin: Well we i started my label Rollsomethin Records in 2000 after a deal we had went sour. Its still the same original people plus a few additions. We grew up in plainfield nj. Its a rough town but its also a place to do big things. I became an artist after being fascinated with Doug E Fresh and Slick Rick the show. I immediately started working on my beat box game and later it turned into keyboards and samplers.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Barrage aka Mr.Rollsomethin: Well it was real easy to come up with the name cause all day somebody was saying rollsomething so i said thats whatbwe gonna call the label. Well i knew alot of people rolled something so i knew it would be catchy n stick in heads.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Barrage aka Mr.Rollsomethin: I have no problem with online music sharing i actually do it for my label. It brings in fans. Yea we give away music for free but we are smart and still have our publishing so we can still get some even with it being free.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Barrage aka Mr.Rollsomethin: Well it might sound cliche but you have to start small and work your way up. You might have to actually pay to get some gigs at first but once you get a buzz or get with the right people or company you can start to get paid for your shows.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
Barrage aka Mr.Rollsomethin: Funny cause i was just talking to somebody bout thia same exact thing. I get my inspiration from a few different things. It could be the beat or sometime i write with no beat cause im inspired by a situation. I also get inspiratiom from my other labelmates they might have a song that needs a verse or they have a great hook down. So inspiration come from just living.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
Barrage aka Mr.Rollsomethin: Yes we have a website its Www.rollsomethinrecords.net.
We use social media to get the word out. Facebook,Instagram,Twitter,
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
Barrage aka Mr.Rollsomethin: Give my artist some build another studio and spend time with my family. Go on a vacay or two. Then get back to recording so when the years up ill flood them with music.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Barrage aka Mr.Rollsomethin: Im a reading junkie so im always reading and finding new ways n proven ways to promote my music. I also spend money with marketing companies to help also. It just looks more professional coming from a company other than your own.
A combination of them and me works best. They know what i dont but im passionate bout my brand so im gonna push it very hard on my own.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
[email protected]: We just dropped a mixtape called Game Saviors on may 17. Its a very good mixtape its like a throwback to the 90s.
We have another mixtape we are gonna drop in july. Then the official label release in August.
We also are going on tour with the launch of the album in August. 5 state 10 city tour. We will be in Nj Ohio Texas Atl and Baltimore.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Barrage aka Mr.Rollsomethin: Thats a very hard question because i been doing music since i was 5. But i think i would have and still will be an architect. Thats my life long dream as well.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
Barrage aka Mr Rollsomethin: Luckily i have a great lady by my side because there was a time where i couldnt pursue my dream because i was a single father. So i am forever grateful to her.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?
Barrage aka Mr. Rollsomethin: They should look forward to hearing and seeing Rollsomethin Records all over the place. We are also gonna drop solo albums for each artists that are solo and the group Lyfers Movement will also drop and album. So expect alot of music from the camp.
