Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
I grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana. I don’t want to sound un-original but music got me through the tough times growing up and I wanted to do that for people.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Atlas At Last is basically implying that I found my way finally.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
I absolutely love the fact that you don’t have to rely on industry contacts and physical sales anymore. I think it is wonderful to be able to release music independently. My current release is an EP called ‘The Flat Earth’ and it is completely free. I am giving it away at www.soundcloud.com/atlasishome
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
The only advice I ever give anyone who asks for it is never to lose sight of your listeners. They are what it’s all about.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
I write songs 24 hours a day. I will hum melodies and target certain word groupings I hear in daily conversation constantly. Only about 5% makes it into a song by the time I sit down to write. I try to find things to write about in every day living so that I am never at a loss for material. I can write a song a day like it is nothing. Music has always just poured out of me.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
Since this project is so new the official site is still in production. Currently I use twitter (@atlasishome) soundcloud (www.soundcloud.com/atlasishome) reverb nation (reverbnation.com/atlasishome) and facebook (facebook.com/atlasishome). I am in the process of recording the debut LP ‘Old Ghost’ and upon it’s release will be available on Itunes, Spotify and most other major distribution sites.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
I would buy my mom a house and go on tour.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
I find twitter to be extremely useful. It is such an intuitive platform for promotion that it is honestly my main tool to use personally.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
As I mentioned before I am currently recording ‘Old Ghost’ the debut LP from Atlas:At Last, aside from that I have just been trying to get into people’s ears.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Skateboarding has been a life-long passion of mine.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
It is difficult not to let something fall to the wayside. I am a very organized person so it’s vital that I schedule almost everything. I also write all my songs at 3 AM.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?
Atlas to have continually increased airplay and the debut LP as well as tour dates announced for 2017.
