Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?

 

Amber: I discovered Exposed Vocals when a friend of mine announced he was being interviewed. I checked out the official twitter and followed you guys. I figured it’d be a good idea, because you never know when you might share an artist I’d like. I didn’t expect to be asked for an interview, though. Why turn down a good opportunity?

Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

 

Amber: I’ve lived in a little known place called Tamaqua my entire life. Growing up in the valley isn’t the most interesting experience, but the lack of places to go gives you an excuse to stay in and let the world around you inspire you to contribute to the numerous creations already out there. I’m an introvert criticized for not acting like an extrovert, because I seem shy and awkward, and I just find it difficult to express myself sometimes. From as far back as I can remember, that’s one of the main reasons some people, including myself at one point, have doubted me, but music is my voice and I decided not to let anything take that away from me.

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

 

Amber: I think people should put their own stories with names. It doesn’t matter nearly as much how I explain one than how you interpret it yourself. It’s less about the story and more about the feelings it evokes.

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

 

Amber: I think it’s amazing how easily we can share music now, and I personally don’t charge anything for my music yet. I’m just getting started. I’d probably worry more if I had a nice sized reputation and fanbase, but I’m just slowly contributing to what’s out there right now

.

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

Amber: I’m pretty small myself, but the best advice for doing anything is to get started and never give up, because in the end it’s all up to you and what you do to try to reach your goal. That’s another thing. Set up goals. Start as small as you and build them up as you reach them.

 

Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?

 

Amber: Is almost falling on my face counted as making a mistake, or is it just called clumsy? When I mess up, I just laugh, smile, and keep going. There’s that occasional moment when I think about previous mistakes(and clumsiness), and I start worrying about if the same things might happen or worse, but people will have to remember that I’m just a human.

 

Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?

 

Amber: I’ve honestly never toured. My outside performance experiences are usually found by chance when I’m on trips in the summer because I have more responsibilities otherwise, and I’m okay with that right now.

 

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

 

Amber: I spend a lot of time observing and looking way too far into things before I write, but my favorite time to write is when it’s one of those mornings where it’s 6am and I’m wide awake. I write a lot on the go, but it’s nice to just sit in my room and think about dreams and what I can take from them.

Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

 

Amber: I don’t have a website. I do occasionally promote my music on YouTube and Instagram, but I’m more often on Twitter or my Facebook page.

Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?

 

Amber: My sister and I actually have a player that’s soon to be ancient by today’s standards. We shared it when we were younger, and I’d have to say there are probably a bunch of embarrassing songs on it. We were into things like Hanna Montana.

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

 

Amber: I don’t know if I like the year off idea, and I’d honestly save a lot of the money. I might buy some equipment, but I’ve grown up in a household where money could never be something you just throw around. Money likes to make me worry about my future because of that, so I’d look for some better financial stability.

Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?

 

Amber: When I say I don’t have money, I’m not kidding. My studio is my bedroom. I sit on my bed with my keyboard, and I record with my phone. I don’t have any special equipment, but I’m working on saving money at the moment, and my birthday is coming up so you never know.

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

 

Amber: Promotion is tricky. I find that simply having someone talk about your music is the best promotion you can get. People are more likely to take a look at something someone else already likes.

Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?

 

Amber: If you know me at all, then you probably know I absolutely adore Joel Faviere. He’s been a huge influence on me, and it’d be cool to work with him some day.

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

 

Amber: I don’t have anything I can tell specifics about, but there’s always something new coming

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

 

Amber: I’d probably be a writer. I love writing stories almost as much as I like reading them. I always thought there was something magical about being able to make a whole new world and almost feel like you’re living in it as things unfold. It’s like a little sanctuary you can come back to in your free time.

Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?

 

Amber: I think the first album I ever had was actually bought for me, and I was just really proud to own a Carrie Underwood CD. I was never really that into country music, but I love her voice so much. The way she uses it still amazes me.

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

 

Amber: I have to remind myself that my responsibilities exist, so I try to do what I need to do and have things scheduled before I do anything music related because I like to be able to sit down and get lost in whatever I’m working on.

Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?

 

Amber: New music. I’ll definitely be creating a lot this year.
