Exposed Vocals interviews Ace Marcello

Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

 

Ace Marcello: My name is Trey Sutherland; I grew up in Wallace, Louisiana. I always loved music, and one day when I was 14, some friends and I decided to start making our own. I fell in love with the process, and I started studying and analyzing many different artists. 6 years have passed and here I am.

 

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

 

Ace Marcello:  The “Ace” part comes from a character in a movie called “Paid in Full.” The Marcello part is another story for another day.

 

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

 

Ace Marcello: The music business is steering towards online sharing, so I have to accept what it is and what it does for an artist. I have given music out for free and I plan to continue doing that. I have no problem releasing free mixtapes and songs, and making albums as well.

 

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

 

Ace Marcello: Work on the quality of your product first, in every aspect you can think of.  Also, take things one step at a time. Enjoy and focus on each individual part of the journey!

 

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

 

Ace Marcello: Inspiration can come from life experiences, other music, or spontaneously. Sometime I just start writing, whether a couple bars or a verse at a time. Then I just have to find a beat for it. Other times, I’ll already have the beat chosen, and then I write to it depending on the feeling or mood I want for the song.

 

Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

 

Ace Marcello: Currently working on a website. I am active on SoundCloud, Youtube, Twitter, Instagram, and ReverbNation.

 

 

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

 

Ace Marcello: I would flip it. Take money, make money.

 

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

 

Ace Marcello: I put the music out into the world and let it find its way home. Self- promotion is important, but hopefully the music speaks for itself. Sites and promo from friends are helpful too.

 

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

 

Ace Marcello: My debut project is coming out soon.

 

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

 

Ace Marcello: No clue. No knowledge on that subject.

 

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

 

Ace Marcello: Just wake up every morning thankful and accepting of other life. That way, I always find balance throughout the day, just take it day by day man.
