My name is Aaron and I’m from Mexico City, I come from a family of musicians my great-grandfather was saxophonist of a Big Band, my grandfather was a pianist but he never played in bands or groups, and my father is a drummer of rock bands like Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Yes, Chicago, and many bands that he likes, thats from my father’s family and from my mom’s family my great-grandfather played the harp in her town, my grandmother sang on the radio with some popular musicians of his time, and my mom was singer too, and now I’m introducing in this ambit of electronic music, I started to play electro music since 3 years old and I received many good expectations from the people that know my work and my music, the people said me always that I have much initiative because they had never met before someone to created your own music.​

 

Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?

 

Aaron Reeves: I heard about Exposed Vocals, when I started to promote my tracks, and then many users began to follow me, there I saw that users followed Exposed Vocals, seemed very interested all the material that contained the page, that made me sign up because I saw that Exposed Vocals support to the talent.

 

Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

 

Aaron Reeves: I grew up on Mexico City. I started to make electronic music since 3 years old, when I started this roll with two friends and we began to play in small places, like birthdays, inaugurations from bars and parties from our town. But I began to think, why don’t make my own music?, and I did it. The first party that I played my own remix I saw the people moving, jumping, screaming, like if they heard one of the best music of their lives, and I was so happy to see that, because in the beginning I was afraid thinking if they would like my music or my music style and there were when I thought, this is for me. When you do something naturally this is for you and more if you love do it.

 

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

 

Aaron Reeves: I decided to take this name, because Aaron it’s a universal name that have the same pronunciation in each country, and Reeves it’s from my last name Rivas and many languages have problems to pronounce my last name. Some artists put his own name accompanied from another word or modification to his last name, and I would like that the people call me by my name represent myself and not a product.

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

 

Aaron Reeves: I think that online music sharing it’s a chance to know many artist that want to be disclosed, the music it’s culture and the culture cannot be illegally or private, yes I have given my music away for free, because now you can’t to protect the music to 100% by many software or pages that facilitate the downloads, breaking the filters of copyright, but I think that people only download music because they just want it’s to hear the songs of their favorites artists, that’s why I don’t have many problems with the music away free, meanwhile don’t affect to artist adding pictures or videos related with the artist.

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

Aaron Reeves: Patience, because if you do something quickly without dedication, you do the things incomplete, your dreams and goals need attention you need to feed your dreams like a pet. Never give up, if you fall you have to get up with a big jump, and remember that if it’s for you although you move, it will be for you.

 

Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?

 

Aaron Reeves: Yes I think that everyone have that uncomfortable experience, I had the bad luck to make that in an opening of a bar, I arrived two hours later and began to connect all the components and my Pc when I finished the music didn’t play but the track was running, so I had to reboot everything then, the music started and the tracks began to fail and it sounded as broken disc, so that I had to do was pretend if it was an special effect, but in that moment I thought “The show must go ahead” the tip it’s if you make a mistake, you must not make others know.

 

Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?

 

Aaron Reeves: No, unfortunately I don’t do tour, by the time.

 

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

 

Aaron Reeves: My inspiration comes when I begin to compose my melodies, my own melodies help to create the magic, this happens in my little studio, alone without sounds, music or everything else that make noise. My usual songwriting process is beginning with a basic rhythm then I play with the musical notes then I put the necessary complements like voice or effects that complete the track or first section of the track, here is when the art shines.

Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

 

Aaron Reeves: Yes, I have a page on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/colossuselectromusic/), I’m work in my own website that I will make known to soon as I finish it. I use the online platform SoundCloud (https://soundcloud.com/aaron-reeves-music) to share my music and I have good response from the audience and my YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_9NLB0bD6g).

 

Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?

 

Aaron Reeves: I don’t know, I wait to hear that from one of the users, if they find something embarrassing in my mp3 player now or in the future, I’m ready and prepared to receive any comment like that hahaha.

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

 

Aaron Reeves: An interesting question… I would like to found a dj’s school and help to the artists youngest to boost the new talent and why not, collaborate with them. After that I would do a great concert, putting together to all the best djs of the world making something like Tomorrowland but more accessible, then with the earnings of the concert and the rest of the money I would travel around the world.

Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?

 

Aaron Reeves: No change for now, I’m working in more tracks to start a local tour or international tour maybe.

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

 

Aaron Reeves: Social networks and online platforms, it work very fine to me for the moment. In the future I would like promote my music in the radio, tv, or some other means to reach large numbers of people.

Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?

 

Aaron Reeves: I would like to perform with Deadmau5 at the festival Tomorrowland, I would like do a duet with him. Because I like his style, I think that with her style and my style we can make a perfect duet.

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

 

Aaron Reeves: I have on mind a project to make video clips showing parts of Mexico City, I have this idea from a few months because I want to go to the next level, the part of the video clips I have many good ideas about this next project.

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

 

Aaron Reeves: Probably I would be working in a company making websites or software developer.

 

Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?

 

Aaron Reeves: Yes basically thought in making an album that I would like to buy and have in my playlist or collection of the best albums that I ever heard, I never thought in making an album comparing it with another artist, I just wanted something that sounded like I, like something with the same energy that I had in this moment, something different with rhythm that I would like to hear in an album.

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

 

Aaron Reeves: I’m a person who likes to read I’m always up to day, reading everything about the music like reviews, interviews, tops, tendencies, etc. Another great helper with that issue it’s Twitter, one of my favorites apps is Twitter you can find many topics about the music, t.v., radio, movies and artists, when I have a break I stay informed on Twitter about the tendencies or many topics that I have to stay informed.

Aaron Reeves: Many surprises, like new video clips, the new website, maybe some collaborations with artists, and many projects that I’ll keep showing to soon.
