Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
I was born in the Bronx but raised in Peekskill NY. In the 5th grade I remember a group of kids in a circle doing a cypher. Spitting some whack ass bars, and I thought to myself I can do that. So I jumped in and was booed off. Ha. I later went home that day and put on some Eminem and just vibed to his lyrics, and I just kept re writing bars waiting for the next cypher. After a while I was showing no progress and people kept saying I was whack. So I stopped writing for years. After I graduated from Peekskill high school. I got my heart broken. And started to write again. You know how every rapper starts rapping.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
A.I (Artificial Intelligence) that name was just recently created before I released my first mixtape and I loved it. Nobody in this world is original. We are programed to be who we are. We are influenced by everything and anything. So I took that Idea and flipped it. So I created my rap Ego. A.I. a program that is fully aware of its surrounding. He knows he’s not original but still trying to break out of that shell. As I grow as a human being so does A.I. I just love that idea
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
music online sharing is amazing. Hell yea I’m going to give my music away for free. Even if I’m as big as Eminem I will share free content to my fans. I only have a handful of fans and I’m planning to spoil them. Fans are our life force. If I’m going to charge them every step of my journey then why would they stick around? I want them be with me till my last album and my last mixtape drops. I’m only planning to drop four albums. Then I’m done with rap. Buts that’s a different story for another day.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
love yourself first then the music. It sucks relying on people’s opinions. Do what feels rite. Oh and save up some money. Nobody ever talks about this, but making music cost money. You need money for promotion, mixing and mastering your music and everything else you can think off. And the number one tip I can give you, is have fun.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
what doesn’t inspire me? Just to name a few, Eminem, Tupac, Nas, Wale, Lil Wayne, Drake, Mac Miller, and Bob Marley are my inspiration. I will just hear a song and get hyped up and put on a beat and start writing. My songwriting process is kind of simple. I write in the morning and rite before I go to sleep. That’s when the inspiration pours out. I can never write a song in one day. Usually one good song takes about one month. I’m a slow writer but that’s only because I want everything to be perfect. Sometimes I will be driving and a quote comes to me and I’m yelling at whoever is next to me to write it down. Inspiration comes to me at any time.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
i use only social media. Instagram (ilove2rap). Twitter (artifical_army) and snapchat (af-jr123) I share my music on sound cloud, Datpiff and YouTube. Go on YouTube and type in A.I Spittas and the music video should pop out and the link to my mixtape will be on it.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
I’m going to Scotland and get drunk. Seriously all that money would go straight into making music and promotion and hire a team that will help me become more successful. Maybe go into stock you know grown folk shit.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
since this was my first project, I knew I had to do something that will bring it some sort of attention. So I made my single Spittas and I got Eman Musik featured on it and the rest was history. He has over 600, 000 followers on Facebook. So I used his hype for my favor. Made a music video with him and let him do some promotion value. On his Facebook wall the video has over 5 thousand views. I thought to myself. That’s not enough what else can I do. I went on musicly. And found a user who has over 400 thousands followers. Asked him to make a video for my song and he did which got over 1000 views and a few other people made videos to my song. So basically using other people hype and use it for my own worked out great for me. Now for my upcoming projects and videos I will have to do the same but with some tweaks to it.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
I’m planning to release two mixtapes before this year ends. The first will be released this summer called the Sequel which is a follow up from the mixtape I just dropped (Preqel) and the last mixtape will be called Remixes. Which is taking every single that came out this year and remix it. Put out more music videos. And just build a fan base and grow the social media. My goal is to have at least 100 dedicated fans by the end of this year. I’m also planning to go around and do as many open mics and master the stage. The Sequel is something I want people to look forward to. I learned a lot from my last mixtape. And my flow and lyrics just keeps getting better. I will also be expanding on the idea of me versus my ego. The single will be called AvsA. Look out for that!
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
a writer or an entertainer. I was born to make people laugh and entertain them. I don’t really like to think about it because my dream is too big for any thoughts like that.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
when I figure it out I will let you know. Ha. It’s very difficult. Since I go to college and I have a girl friend and I work at Walmart. As long as I have at least one hour to write then everything else should just fall in place. And the beauty of music is you don’t have to write or rehearse all the time. You can just live. Living and having fun has such a great impact into your music. I never rush my music. I let it live with me.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?
a banging ass mixtape! At least three more music videos. I will be rocking stages live. A lot is happing this year. I’m just going to keep growing my fan base. And keep releasing great content.
