Two More Arrested in Connection to Stabbing Death of Lostprophets Singer Ian Watkins
West Yorkshire, UK — Two additional suspects have been arrested in the killing of disgraced Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins, who died earlier this month following a violent stabbing inside HMP Wakefield.
West Yorkshire Police confirmed on Monday that two men, aged 23 and 39, were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder, marking a major development in the ongoing investigation into Watkins’s death. The arrests come just days after two other men, aged 25 and 43, were taken into custody on suspicion of murder.
Watkins, 48, was serving a 29-year sentence for a string of horrifying child sex offenses when he was fatally attacked on October 11. The former rock star, once adored by fans worldwide, had become one of the UK’s most reviled inmates after pleading guilty in 2013 to crimes involving the abuse of infants and the possession of extreme child pornography.
Authorities say Watkins was stabbed multiple times in a coordinated attack by fellow inmates inside the high-security prison known as “Monster Mansion,” a facility that houses some of the UK’s most dangerous criminals. While details remain limited, the addition of conspiracy charges suggests investigators believe the assault was premeditated.
The prison service has launched an internal review, raising renewed concerns about how someone as high-profile — and vulnerable — as Watkins could be targeted inside what is supposed to be one of the country’s most secure facilities. He had previously survived a serious stabbing in 2023.
Watkins’s crimes and subsequent death have sparked widespread public debate over inmate safety, prison justice, and the long-standing issue of how to manage convicted sex offenders in general population environments.
All four suspects remain in custody as police continue their investigation.
