Exposed Vocals Interviews Jessica Jones
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
>Jessi Jones: Well I grew up in Colorado. A small town where everybody knows everything about everybody. And you know, everyone has their own label as who they are as a person. Mine was always “the singer”. I think the first time I ever sang in front of people was my 5th grade talent show. I was eleven at the time. And it was the first time I felt that performance rush and heard all of those compliments on my voice. After that I decided I wanted to do music. Of course, through middle school and high school I went through different phases. I wanted to be a vet, a biomedical engineer. I took tons of physics and calculus classes in high school because I was good at math, and then tons of pre-law and speech because I was determined to be a lawyer. Finally, this year, I decided I wanted to do music. So I’m promoting myself and working in my art and moving my entire life from this state where I’ve grown up in and I’m going to California to pursue my dreams.
> Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
> Jessi: Fun story. My name is actually Jessica Jones, but apparently that one is already taken, and by a super hero nonetheless. And one of my gymnastic teachers a decade ago at least said that Jessi Jones sounded like a famous person’s name, so Jessi it became.
> Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
> Jessi: I think online music sharing is brilliant. The internet exposes new and talented artists that have virtually no connections in the “industry” and that’s great. I haven’t technically given my music away because I’m releasing my first single on July 25th, but I show my music skills on the internet which can be seen here: https://soundcloud.com/
> Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
> Jessi: Don’t be afraid to reach out. There are tons of people out there looking for talent. You must work hard. It won’t be easy. But talk to people and build relationships and connections and you’ll reach your goals.
> Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
> Jessi: Usually I’ll catch a snippet of lyrics or a melody at, like, 3am and I have to record it before I forget it. It usually just comes to me when I don’t expect it.
> Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
> Jessi: I’m not cool enough for a website. But I use a bunch of other stuff.

> Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
>Jessi: I would work on my music. Promote it. Also I’d probably buy a few (hundred) animals, pay rent, insurance, the usual
> Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
> Jessi: Twitter works really well for me for some reason. Also instagram because for some freak reason I got 11k in like 5 months. Crazy stuff.
> Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
> Jessi: I’ve mentioned this a few times probably, but my first single, Bag of Bones, is coming out on July 25th. Exciting stuff.
> Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
> Jessi: Fun fact, I’m also publishing a book this year. It’s called Ripped, and it will be under my pen name, Jay J. Anne. It should be out sometime in the fall. So that’s probably what I would be doing
> Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
> Jessi: I live off of basically 3 hours of sleep every day. If you can’t find time for everything you have to make time. Work hard until you don’t have to anymore.
> Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?
> Jessi: Keep an eye out for my single and keep an eye out for my debut novel. Everything else is a secret right now
