Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

 

Leaf Rose: I grew up in Wilmington, Delaware. I moved to Atlanta for a few months then I came back to Delaware. I was always an artist, that’s not something that I just decided to be. Creativity took over my life.

 

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

 

Leaf Rose: My name is Khalif but my nickname is Leaf so that’s where that came from. The rose came from the way I rose out of poverty, and my rose tattoos for everyone I lost that I have tatted on me. The inspiration behind it is everyone I lost to jail or to a grave.

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

 

Leaf rose: Online music sharing is really lit I think. All of my music is free because I make music for the love of it. I’m gonna get money regardless whether I charge for my music or not you know.

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

Leaf rose: Stay true to yourself, it’s no set time limit on how fast things should happen. Just be patient and everything will fall into place.

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

 

Leaf rose: Songwriting inspiration comes from real life experiences, I don’t really have a process it’s just random feelings all put together for the most part.

Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

 

Leaf rose: I don’t currently have a website but I am on soundcloud. I’ll be on spinrilla and datpiff shortly.

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

 

Leaf Rose: 500 racks, I would put half away. Use 50 racks for vacations. 100 racks for my music expenses. The other 100 I would invest & build off of so it never runs out.

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

Leaf rose: I feel like face to face promotion and online promo are good avenues. I would rather other people refer people to my music through word of mouth instead of me tryna push myself.

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

 

Leaf Rose: if I wasn’t making music I would be making money hahaaaa.

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

 

Leaf rose: as long as the priorities are in order I know what I’m working towards. Life is easy, when focused on the right things in the right order.
