Trial Date Set for Sean “Diddy” Combs in Federal Sex Trafficking and Racketeering Case
A federal judge in New York has officially set the trial date for Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is facing a high-profile federal indictment on charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and related crimes. The trial is scheduled to begin on May 5, 2025, according to a ruling issued during a pretrial hearing held on October 10, 2024, in the Southern District of New York.
U.S. District Judge Valerie Reyes confirmed the date after hearing from both prosecution and defense teams, who have spent the past month filing motions and preparing for what is expected to be one of the most closely watched trials in entertainment and legal history.
Prosecutors indicated that they intend to call multiple witnesses, including several women who have filed civil suits against Combs and who are now cooperating with federal authorities. They also plan to introduce communications and digital evidence seized during coordinated federal raids on Combs’s properties in March.
“This case is about systemic abuse, manipulation, and power,” the lead prosecutor said during the hearing. “The government is prepared to present a clear picture of how the defendant operated a predatory enterprise under the guise of celebrity and influence.”
Combs, who remains in federal custody following a denied bail request in September, was not physically present in the courtroom but appeared via video link. His legal team continued to assert his innocence, stating they were “more than ready” to go to trial.
“This date gives us ample time to review the vast amount of discovery and mount a full defense,” said attorney Benjamin Brafman. “Mr. Combs looks forward to clearing his name and exposing the truth behind these deeply flawed and opportunistic accusations.”
The judge has scheduled additional pretrial hearings for January and March 2025 to address motions regarding evidence admissibility, witness protections, and potential media restrictions. Due to the case’s high-profile nature and significant public interest, the court is also considering implementing limited media access guidelines to maintain courtroom order and safeguard involved parties.
As the May 2025 trial date looms, the music industry, media, and legal communities are bracing for what could become a landmark trial with wide-ranging cultural and legal implications.
