Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
ARod The God: My name is Aaron “ARod The God” Askew. I was brought up in a little town called Ahoskie in North Carolina. Very small town. Not very diverse. The reason why I became an artist is because I love music. Music is life to me. Any type of music. I started rapping at 7 years old. And I still rap until this day.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Arod The God: People at school would always call me ARod. They be like “Whats Up, ARod” or “Yoo, Its ARod”. I feel like that name had a ring to it and I decided to use it. The second part of my name came from me. I wanted a name like Chance The Rapper because he inspired me to become a rapper. Arod The God was the final result. And it rhymes.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Arod The God: I always share my music on SoundCloud. And yes, my music is free. The reason why I make my music free is because right now, I’m not popular enough to start charging people for my music.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
ARod The God: All I gotta say is PROMOTE. You need promotion to gain thats how I see it.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
ARod The God: I’m inspired by the music I hear everyday. It could be one day while I’m sitting in class and I think of some fire rhymes. I put all my songs that I write in my notes app. But sometimes I freestyle.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
ARod The God: No. I just use SoundCloud, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and Google +.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
ARod The God: I’m going to spend it wisely. I’m not going to spend it on dumb things. But I would spend some of it on the things I need. Not want. Right now, I need a new car.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
ARod The God: I release all my music on SoundCloud but, I use Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Google +, even YouTube. But the best way to promote my music is by the people I know in person so they can share it with their friends.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
ARod The God: I’m working on a mixtape with my boy Dotarachi (Member of our music group, Deuce Deuce.)
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
ARod The God: Probably would be in the house all the time. Playing the PS4. My life would be a lot more boring.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
ARod The God: Being a senior and all and making music is hard to me right now. Preparing for graduation, writing all these senior papers and final exams. But I manage to do what I love and thats making music.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?
ARod The God: A new unique rapper who is different from the rest. They should look forward to my group too Deuce Deuce. We Up Next!
