Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

 

OG GoldMouf: I kind of grew up everywhere. I’m from Brooklyn, NY, but I moved around a lot and lived in like 5 different states growing up; including Charlotte, North Carolina where I went to high-school at.

Ever since I was a young kid, I was always in the spot light doing something positive or amazing but making music and becoming an artist was my secret gift. I actually first started my music career as a dancer. I use to be in a Hip-Hop Dance Troupe in Charlotte, North Carolina; which at first I wasn’t allowed to join because I was under age; I was 10 and the youngest you could be was 14. My mother and my undiscovered passion for music was so persistent that they allowed me to audition anyway; and that’s when I got accepted into the troupe on the spot and where I decided to take music more seriously. I was dancing at college and NBA halftime shows like, UNCC and the Charlotte Hornets when they use to be the Bobcats. But not until 12 years later where I found myself in Norfolk VA, alone with no family, kicked out of college, homeless, jobless and sick for the past 7 months; since last November, is when I really decided to become an artist and transition myself and my pain from what I’m going through, from dancing to writing and storytelling. But none of my music would have been possible if I hadn’t of met Taushi Peters or Spaz (The Producer). He’s the main reason why making my music went from a dream to a reality.

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

OG GoldMouf: Ever since I was a young kid I use to always get compliments on my smile and how nice it was, and/or how white my teeth are, and/or how straight they are; so I was always smiling. For no reason I was smiling just because I love to smile. I think it brighten up people’s day plus it brings a certain glow to people and shows that that person is essentially happy. While I was at college at Norfolk State University my peers and colleagues use to call me Yung GoldMouf at first because I was the first person on campus for real who wore grills everyday faithfully, top and bottom and had a unique style with it. Every time I talked, smiled or just opened my mouth you seen gold and everyone would just stare at my mouth, but once I started going further with my music and going through life situations and experiencing life at its rawest form is where the Yung part of my name dropped and the OG name got picked up; because I had to see and do things, and make decisions as man with no father or no type of guidance for real all on my own.

 

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

OG GoldMouf: This is my first music project so I would love for my music to be shared everywhere, including online. I think online music sharing is a very effective and strong way to get your music and massage heard and seen across the world. I will always have some way for the people to listen and hear my music for free; but because of my living situation now and me knowing that you need some source of income to provide and survive in this world, especially the United States of America; I demand and prefer to be paid because it took blood, sweat, tears, depression, homelessness and suicidal moments to make all this music magic happen. So I think I deserve to be paid for went I through so I wouldn’t have to ever endure that pain and experience again.

 

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

OG GoldMouf: Stay focus, stay dedicated, find your passion and promote/support yourself. Stay true to who you are and people will find their way to your path and then follow and buy into your destination.

 

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

OG GoldMouf: I usually get inspiration from my current living situation, my brother who also produces all my music, and herbal cannabis. I really don’t have a song writing process, but before I write any music or do anything musically, I elevate and stimulate my mind and my soul.

 

Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

OG GoldMouf: I would invest that half a million dollars into myself, with music, clothing lines, and other business ventures; also into stocks and other businesses. Doing that I will double to triple my money within that year so that following year and years to come; I wouldn’t have to eventually work or not work as hard as I did.

 

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

OG Goldmouf: I try to use each and every way possible or what is available to me and my pockets lol. So

Far using sound cloud and posting on my soial media and word of mouth, has been working for me.

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

OG GoldMouf: Hopefully a change in my living situation lol but yea theirs a few different projects I’m working on.

 

 

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

OG GoldMouf: Playing sports somewhere or still in college and working.

 

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

OG GoldMouf: I just stay focus and dedicated to my passion and where I’m trying to go in life. I keep my focus on my future goals in life and always think about my overall well-being.
