Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

 

Dezzy:

 

I am from Mobile, Alabama better known as “Mobtown.” I have been rapping since I was 13 and started recording music when I was in the eleventh grade. Music for me was an outlet to get things off my chest in the process of growing up. I wrote songs that would get me through situations like heartbreak and death in the family. Music got me through bad and good times as my skills progressed I started making music for every mood and event. My goal is to master hip hop and become an artist that is not stuck in a box and to touch people like my favorite rappers, Tupac, Andre 3000, Nas, Big L, and Eminem, touched me but in my own style and go even harder .

 

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

 

Dezzy:

 

I came up with the name Dezzy when I was a kid just playing around and as I grew older it stuck with me.

 

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free Why?

 

Dezzy:

 

Yes, I give away free CD’s just to promote my music and because I am a new artist that’s trying to build a platform for myself. I recently created a Sound Cloud and uploaded a few singles. Online sharing is a great and easy way to promote music of all genres.

 

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

 

Dezzy:

 

My biggest advice would be stay patient and stay consistent even when you feel like if nobody is listening now. The people one day will wake up and start to believe in you and what you are trying to accomplish. You have to believe in yourself first and have the music to back you up. As long as you have the great music to back you up nobody can’t bring you down. So just focus on being the best you can be and the rest will fall in place. That has been my motto since day one.

 

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

 

Dezzy:

 

I gain inspiration from life. Anytime I get upset or have something on my mind I write it down and turn it into a song and vent on the beat. I discovered when I was in middle school that this was the best way to relieve stress for me.

 

Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

 

Dezzy:

 

As of right now, I only upload music onto Sound Cloud, YouTube, and Twitter and if you want to check my music out just follow me at DezzDaLyricist.

 

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

 

I would stay in the studio and work and use that money for the best engineer and producer I can find and create an album. I say this because I honestly don’t believe in breaks. Growing up I learn that any day can be your last so you have to use the time that you have. When my brother died I told myself I will be someone in life and that I won’t play around any longer. In a way, music was a way to keep me motivated so that I can make my brother proud.

 

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

 

The best way for me to promote my music is meeting people one on one and passing out my cds. Lately, I have been using the internet to help me gain more fans and my goal is to have a bigger fan base by the end of the year but more importantly I try to focus more on being consistent and make great music so I can stand out from other artist.

 

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

 

I will be dropping my first mixtape call “More Channels” in a few months. Also, my team and I have a mixtape coming out soon called “95 Music” and I plan on working with new artist and producers.

 

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

 

If I wasn’t making music I would be a boxer in the gym training for a fight. Boxing is my second passion. I love boxing it’s my favorite sport so if I didn’t have music I would most likely be grinding hard in the gym.

 

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

 

Dezzy:

 

I know many people think that music takes a lot of time to make and perfect but I see music as a part of my daily responsibilities. Sometimes I catch myself working on music without even trying and that’s the beautiful thing about music for me, it comes very natural.

 

Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?

 

Dezzy:

 

Fans should look forward to seeing my consistency in continuing to make great music and to look for my new singles on Sound Cloud, YouTube, and Twitter at DezzyDaLyricist. I plan to do big things in 2016 for the hip hop fans who love great quality lyrics and content.
