Richard also known as Iykmula, is a multi talented rapper/singer who hails from Africa. Rapper Iykmula attended and graduated from high school year 2010 where he discovered his talents and wrote lyrics with some friends then he decided to put it into practice. He started performing at local shows and street carnivals since year 2012, before he joined some new Rappers in College and performed in school shows and events. He graduated in year 2015 and decided to pursue music as a full time career. Iykmula has collaborated with some Local Arts in Africa. He has massive Jam like “Dab Freestyle” and to his credit he was featured on the song “Slept On” by a United States Female rapper Yoshivintage.
*Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you
grow up? What made
you decide to become an artist?
*Iykmula: Thank you for the privilege. I’m Richard a 22 years old, brought up by my single mom. I have just two siblings, an elder brother and a younger brother. I graduated from a College Of Education in 2015. Well i grew up in Lagos State, Nigeria in Africa. I have been rapping as an amateur with some friends in high school, so i decided to put it into practice, because i felt i was good at what i was doing.
*Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name?
What was your
inspiration behind it?
*Iykmula: The name IYKMULA can be traced from my native name Ikechukwu, so i shortened it as IYK, then as a Rapper i needed something with cool & catchy word, so i added Mula to it. My inspiration behind the name is just the love for rap, money and the young money crew.
*Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music
sharing? Do you ever
give your music away for free? Why?
*Iykmula: I think music spreads quicker that way in my own opinion anyway, i just share my music and yes it is for free. I’m still upcoming so i best believe i have to start sharing it freely to get audience to listen to it.
*Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once,
can you give any
smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and
airplay some
tips?
*Iykmula: Well i can’t say. They should try as much as possible to do great songs, before getting a radio station to play it.
*Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather
songwriting inspiration? What
is your usual songwriting process?
*Iykmula: I gather writing inspiration by listening to Foreign and Local rap music. Well that should be starting to write up a rap line.
*Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What
online platforms do you
use to share your music?

*Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars
and a year off,
what would you do? How would you spend it?
*Iykmula: I would take a Trip to United States and meet with my friend YoshiVintage. I would go to different Music shows in the United States and watch great performances. And of course do a collaboration with some known Act before coming back.
*Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your
music? What works
best for you?
*Iykmula: I have been promoting my music online, clubs and in street. Probably that should be online.
*Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming
projects that you want
to talk about?
*Iykmula: Yes i just did a collaboration with United States Rapper Yoshivintage, and i would be working on more collaborations locally and internationally. I’m working on my Mixtape Album titled (BEYOND YOUR IMAGINATION) which would be dropping later in the year.
*Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what
would you be doing?
*Iykmula: Wow! I really can’t say because music is my life. But well i would go back to my second choice and that is being a Teacher or an Accountant.
*Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your
responsibilities while
trying to stay ahead in your music life?
*Iykmula: It has never been easy, but i’m just trying to be consistent in what i do. At a stage i had to stop the music movement because of school and exams and family issues. But thank God i graduated and now it has been just facing music squarely.
*Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in
2016?
*Iykmula: More Dope songs, more collaborations. And good networking with them.
