Exposed Vocals Interviews KDO (Kind and Dope Observer)
Khanyisa Fadi (KDO) is a young and ambitious rapper from Cape Town.
The 18 year old started rapping at the age of 12 after he was inspired
by one of artists from Cape Town, Pro X . Khanyisa aka KDO stated
recording tracks at the age of 13 with his hit track “Boy From The
City”. The artist is currently working on his first mixtape titled
“Black Minded” which will be coming out next summer, and he is
releasing a new single on the 1st May.
*Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where
did you grow up? What made
you decide to become an artist?*
KDO: I’m a young, humble and ambitious artist from Cape Town (SA). I
grew up in Mdantsane in the Eastern Cape , then moved to Cape Town at
the age of 13 that was when my journey as an artist started. My love
for music made me took the decision of becoming an artist as I wanted
a way to express my feelings to the World.
*Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with
that name? What was your
inspiration behind it?*
KDO: KDO (Kind and Dope Observer)in full, is a name that I was given
by my childhood friends when I started rapping.
*Expose00d Vocals: What do you think about
online music sharing? Do you ever
give your music away for free? Why?*
KDO: I think online music sharing is a great platform for us as
upcoming artists as it offers a great exposure and a connection with
people who may be helpful in our journey in the music industry. Yes I
do give away my music for free since I’m still trying to build a solid
fan base.
*Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up
once, can you give any
smaller or local bands or artists looking to get
gigs and airplay some
tips?*
KDO: I would advise them to hustle hard and stay humble at all times,
and they should not expect favors from people all the time. They must
believe and have confidence in their craft and must be able to
convince others to listen to their music too.
*Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather song writing inspiration?
What is your usual song writing process?*
KDO: I usually listen to other music genres and that’s how I get
inspiration sometimes, and in some cases it depends on my emotional
feelings. Usually I write my songs over night and I take my time to
write, I believe that helps me to be more open minded.
*Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website?

*Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a
million dollars and a year off,
what would you do? How would you spend it?*
KDO: I would use some of the money to pay for my course fees and
assist my folks in some family needs, then spend the rest on studio
equipments then maybe start a production company.
*Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What
works best for you?*
KDO: I find ways to promote my music from people who have been in the
game and have experience and from people who love the music. I found
Social media as one of my best ways to promote my music and airplays
from local radio stations also play a major role.
*Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new
upcoming projects that you want
to talk about?*
KDO: I am currently working on my first solo project, a mixtape titled
‘Black Minded’, the projects is going to be all about me ,the things
I’ve been through and how the music changed my life. The release date
for the tape has not been confirmed yet. On the 22 April I will be
releasing a single from the tape titled ‘Hay Maan’ and it will be
available for streaming and free download.
*Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music,
what would you be doing?*
KDO: If I was not doing music I would have been doing IT since I love
working with computers and I love to be online most of the time.
*Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities
while trying to stay ahead in your music life?*
KDO: I believe its all about time management, I juggle my own by using
the free time I get very wisely and try to make a difference by any
means, so that I can get enough time to stay ahead of my music life.
*Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward
to in 2016?*
KDO: Well in 2016 fans should expect a lil different sound and a
couple features as well as my mixtape (Black Minded). I will be
