Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

 

M.Woods : I Grew up on the east side of Buffalo,NY. It wasn’t the easiest place to be raised but I was always around my family.  They’ve always supported me, Kept me on track. I think what made me become an artist was the passion I had as a child. I remember me and my big brother who is also an artist used to make paper Cd’s and pretend we had albums. Ever since then I’ve felt destined to make music. I always used to sing every chance I got. It runs in my family. I knew I had something special. I was always told that if you don’t use it, you lose it.

 

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

 

M.Woods: Well my first and last name is Maliik Woods. I figured that ” M.Woods ” is original. Makes me feel comfortable you know? Their wasn’t any inspiration behind it honestly. I’ve had many names I’ve tried and I felt that this one fits me best.

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

 

M.Woods: I have a great respect for online music sharing. I want my music to be available to everyone. I give my music away for free because I think I have to earn my shot to get paid. I’m willing to work towards that. Until then, I want the world to hear my music!

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

M.Woods: My personal opinion is don’t be picky. Take advantage of any show or any gig going on. It doesn’t matter if you are being paid or how many people show up. It takes patience and practice. try to network with other artist. doesn’t matter if its local or out of town. Get your feet wet, shoot your shot, you never know who’s watching or where it could take you.

 

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

 

M.Woods: I have an old soul. I listen to music from the 50s and 60s, you know Motown music? these songs get my mind at ease. I usually find inspiration from what i’ve been through. I want people to listen to my music and react like ” I know exactly how he feels or where he’s coming from “. I may here a song and instantly start writing. I may not finish the song at the moment, but I have to write it down so I wont lose my idea. It takes me about an hour to write a song, especially if im really into it.

Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

 

M.Woods: I have a twitter, facebook, and soundcloud at the moment. This is how I share my music.  I am currently building a website. Im just taking things one step at a time.

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

 

M.Woods: I would build a studio first and fore most. Then help my family out a bit until its time to get back to work. I’ll save the rest. It can come in handy later.

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

 

M.Woods: I use social networks. Social networking is a great outlet for me. It connects at real time and its available to everyone. Its very convenient.

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

 

M.Woods: I have an EP titled ” Lost Egos ” dropping next month. I’ve been working extra hard on it. I hope everyone will like it. Its a mixture of R&B and rap. My next single ” Motions ” will be dropping in 2 weeks.

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

 

M.Woods: If I weren’t making music I would be playing basketball or continue with school. School keeps me in check. I’m learning so much in college. I can invest everything I’ve learned in my songs!

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

 

M.Woods: Its quite difficult, But I try to handle all of my outside issues before I start to write, or I just use it as inspiration.  I always make time for music. I’m constantly working on my craft.

Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?

 

M.Woods: get ready for many songs and my EP this year! Hopefully someone notices me and gives me a shot. I will keep working tirelessly! My website will be up as well.  I plan to do gigs and shows if given the opportunity.
